MOM, I’VE SEEN ENOUGH LEAVES…

WHAT IS THERE FOR KIDS TO DO DURING FALL FOLIAGE SEASON IN MT WASHINGTON VALLEY, NH?

North Conway, NH – While Mother Nature’s artistry takes front and center during the fall foliage season in Mt Washington Valley, leaf-peeping goes just so far with the younger set.  Count on fabulous fall foliage in New Hampshire’s White Mountains from late September through late October along with amazing views throughout Mt Washington Valley to set the backdrop for your trip.  However, with the kids in tow, leaf-peeping for Mom and Dad may need to be augmented by these family events available throughout the fall season.

Indoor Laser tag at White Lake Speedway: Year-round and weather-proof, from two to 20+ players ages seven and up can stalk each other out in a game of laser tag.  New unique "in-house custom mods" and A.I. TRACKERS plus very cool lighting effects make this the closest thing to being inside a video game for your kids.  Guaranteed to keep them active and smiling.  Info: https://whitelakespeedway.com..

Johnny Appleseed or Pumpkin Patch Express on Conway Scenic RR or ride The Cog: Mom and Dad will love the foliage views from the Notch or the Valley train rides, while the kids enjoy the historic train ride. New for 2019, September 7 – October 14th, the Valley Train, will make an optional weekend stop at Densmore Orchards. While enroute to Conway passengers can choose to make a 20-minute visit to the orchard and farm stand for apples, cider and to watch the apple presses. Then on the last two weekends in October, take the Conway Scenic RR to the “Pumpkin Patch” in Conway, where passengers are invited to pick out a pumpkin and enjoy some “Trunk or Treat” displays and barrel car rides.  In addition, the Mt Washington Cog Railway is the perfect way to combine fabulous fall sightseeing with a thrilling train ride to the summit of Mt Washington, where fall colors combine with fun for the whole family at the top of the largest peak in the Northeast.  Info: www.conwayscenic.com or www.TheCog.com.

Day trips with Outdoor Escapes NH:  Customize your outdoor experience with a guided day trip from Outdoor Escapes NH. Experience life on the farm at Remick Country Doctor Museum & Farm: Open year-round with workshops, monthly homeschool classes, young learner offerings and activities for all ages, enjoy everything from the September Harvest Festival to Nocturnal Adventures in October. While here, interact with sheep, goats, cows, chickens and pigs, and their offspring (in season) and see a farm at work. The only country doctor museum in New England—one of only three in the United States—Remick Country Doctor Museum & Farm provides year-round opportunities for visitors to engage with rural New England history, and see what life was like before screens and devices. Other museum options for the whole family include the MW Observatory Weather Discovery Center with fun learning displays for all ages.  In addition, the MWV Children’s Museum is perfect for the younger set, filled with everything from puppets to play toys.  Info: www.remickmuseum.org/.

Take a Moose Tour:  Few sights are more thrilling than seeing moose in the wild! This activity combines leaf-peeping with wildlife watching for the best of both worlds.  Mt Washington Valley offers two options for  your guided moose safaris. Gorham Moose Tours offer three hour moose and wildlife watching tours through the picturesque Androscoggin River North Country in a 15-passenger fan.  The MWV Moose Bus Tours is North Conway's Moose Safari offering the Moose Movie and Moose Tour.  Both options will take you to places where you’re most likely to see moose and other wildlife in their own habitat.  Info: www.mwvmoosetours.com or www.gorhammoosetours.org.

Find your way through the Corn Maize at Sherman Farm & Maize: Explore an intricate labyrinth of corn designed to confound even those with the best sense of direction. Inside the Maize, you can play Farm Scene Investigation, Barnyard Bing-oh! and Cornundrums (corny riddles to solve). Answer questions along the way; the correct answer is your passport, sending you off in the right direction and a great family activity to solve together! After you find your way out of the maze, the fun doesn’t stop. Make way to the  Corn Boxes, just like a sand box only with corn, the petting area with goats and pigs, hayrides to the pumpkin patch and of course pick your own pumpkin.  There’s a mini maize for the younger set and the new Pumpkin Pad, a pumpkin shaped bounce pad. Afterward, visit Sherman Farm’s Farm Stand and take home dinner for the whole family.  Weston’s Farm Stand in Fryeburg also offers up the perfect place to pick a pumpkin for the kids and plenty of farm-grown produce and locally created gifts for Mom and Dad all in a harvest color-filled setting. Shop tax-free:  For the pre-teen and teenage set whose had enough of leaf-peeping, New Hampshire’s tax-free shopping is always an option.  Start at Settlers Green where 60+ brand-name outlets will keep everyone in the family busy finding great bargains.  You’ll be surprised also at the number of wonderful restaurants and artworks you’ll find here made by New England artists too.  Then move on to both North Conway Village for eclectic shops, boutiques and galleries offering one-of-a-kind treasures and even further to Jackson for one-of-a-kind village shops and general stores.  For those who prefer to shop local, the White Mountain Independents are a group of locally-owned stores in the Valley.  Both options offer plenty up more than 200 outlets, shops and stores with something for everyone in the family.  Info: https://mtwashingtonvalley.org/thingstodo/shopping.cfm.
