Museums

Sometimes on a hot summer day or the dead of winter, the crew would simply rather play inside.  Mt Washington Valley offers options for all ages.  For the younger set, head to the MWV Children’s Museum for a fully day of puppets, Pooh and play.   And those of all ages, should not miss the MWV Observatory’s Weather Discovery Center, filled with fascinating weather-related displays or the recently opened New England Ski Museum. The Remick Country Doctor Museum in Tamworth offers a tribute to two country doctors—Dr. Edwin Remick and his son, Dr. Edwin "Doc" Crafts Remick—who served the medical needs of the Tamworth area for a combined 99 years. Attend an indoor workshop or one of the educational events.  Plus, the Conway Historic Society offers a look to the past in it’s Eastman Lord House Museum featuring period rooms from 1818 to 1945.

Sports Centers

From candlepin bowling, arcades and golf simulators at Saco Valley Sports Center to the new year-round indoor Laser Tag Arena at White Lake Speedway, your kids will find plenty of fun when the weather sends them running indoors. Knockerball North Conway, features a 30 yard, 5,000 sq. ft. indoor artificial turf playing field – get in on the newest sport of knockerball or try your hand at Archery Tag here too.  Cool off during the summer months and hit the ice year-round at Ham Arena, offering public skating, broomball and much more. 

Escape the heat or cold in an Escape Room

In under 60 minutes, you and your team must find clues, open locks, solve puzzles, and decrypt messages in order to unravel the mystery and "escape" the room at Mystery NH.  It’s exciting and it’s cool – in more ways than one. 

Tin Mountain Conservation Learning Center & Area Libraries

While it’s not air-conditioned, the basement of the Nature Learning Center at the Tin Mountain Conservation Center  (heated and powered by solar energy in the winter), is filled with exhibits and a natural history/science library that stays cool throughout the warm summer months.  In addition, beat the heat in summer and escape the chill in winter at local area libraries including the North Conway Library and the Conway Library offering programming and plenty of books and more. 

Hit the restaurants

Cool off in one of Mt Washington Valley’s 50+ air conditioned restaurants with a cool drink and a delicious meal.  From fine dining to casual pub fare, international cuisine and fresh as it comes, one way to beat the heat of summer or the cold of winter is to dine locally at any of Mt Washington Valley’s eclectic restaurants and The Valley Originals.

Cool off with a cool one – beer tastings

Craft brews are the hottest things to cool off with, and Mt Washington Valley offers three great options for tastings.  Hit the tasting room at Tuckerman Brewing, and on Sundays you might even get in on a concert during their concert series.  Moat Mountain Smokehouse & Brewing Co and Sea Dog Brewing both offer up their tasty brews along with fabulous food too.

Trains & Automobiles

Be sure to reserve a seat in the first class, dining or dome cars on the Conway Scenic Railroad and you’ll be treated to air-conditioned trains in the hottest months of the year.  Jump on one of the Mt Washington Auto Road guided van tours and not only will your ride up be educational but it’ll be air conditioned...at least at the base of the trip.  As you climb up Mt Washington, you’ll find less and less need for that AC, and by the top, you may even need heat! You’ll find temps that are at least 20-degrees cooler at the summit of Mt Washington – a welcome relief on a hot summer day. 

Take a Moose Tour

Few things are as exciting as spotting a moose in the wild.  When the summer heat continues into the evening, book a moose safari and travel in air-conditioned vans to see these wild kings of the White Mountains.  There are two great options for moose tours in Mt Washington Valley, NH – MWV Moose Bus Tours/Moose Safari and Gorham Moose Tours.

Mt Washington Valley is filled with indoor opportunities for live performance, arts and culture.  From plays presented by local community performers at M&D at Eastern Slope Inn Playhouse to music and concerts by well-loved artists at Stone Mountain Arts CenterMedallion Opera House, Believe in Books Theater in the Wood, and Denmark Arts Center, and classical performance, operas and more at the Leura Hill Eastman Performing Arts Center, there are plenty of ways to cool off in AC or warm up during the winter with a live performance.
