Good News from Mt Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce - August 14, 2018

WITH HELP FROM GENEROUS VALLEY BUSINESSES,  INFO BOOTHS GETS FACE LIFT

North Conway, NH – When Thomas Spaulding, General Manager of the soon-to-open Glen House Hotel in Pinkham Notch, needed to keep staff on the payroll before a certificate of occupancy could be issued, he called Janice Crawford at Mt Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce.  With true Valley grit and always looking for efficiency, Janice delightfully put the staff from The Glen House to work restoring the Chamber’s Information Booths and helping in the office.  “Thom called me, and I was grateful for the chance to put his staff to work at the chamber,” said Janice. Andrea Stebbins staffed the Conway Information booth, Steve Jordan, Taylor Hawkins and Charity Wythe began the process of painting the new fencing around the porta pottie and propane tank and the building.  Karen Langan provided services at the chamber office sorting through Christmas decorations in preparation for Festival of Trees, helping with data entry and also with the chamber’s Annual Meeting Silent Auction.

“It takes a Valley of businesses to renovate the chamber’s Information Booths, and it’s with grateful thanks we acknowledge all of those in the community that have contributed to the recent renovations at the Conway and North Conway Information Booths,” added Janice.

Contributing to the renovations at the Conway Info Booth:

• Lowes provided the chamber with new fencing and installed it
• Lindsey’s Paint and Wallpaper provided the paint for painting the building, fence and shutters
• McSherry’s Nursery provided perennials for the gardens.
• Eversource provided a new Evergreen Tree that will become the center of attention at Christmas
• Town of Conway Public Works removed the old fencing and the landscaping debris

In addition, the billboard will be spruced up soon here too. 

Contributing to the renovations at the North Conway Info Booth:

• Milford Flooring  replaced the carpet
• The building was  pressure washed and we will be painting the trim.

Both Information Booths serve the traveling public by providing tourism information and directions.  The booths are staffed by dedicated volunteers provided by the Retired Senior Volunteers Program and managed by Volunteer Coordinator, Pony Rice.  While digital and online information sources have changed the scene for tourism information gathering, the two booths combined have served nearly 5000 people over the past year.  “We are happy to display members’ brochures and appreciate receiving vacancy information at 356-5947 (Memorial Day through Columbus Day, weekends and vacation weeks) for North Conway or 447-2639 (Memorial Day through Columbus Day) at the Conway Info Booth.

The Chamber’s work continues throughout the year and as it does, the Chamber’s wish list grows.  Here are some of the items still sought by the Mt Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce:

• Volunteers to fill in the information booth schedules
• Help with finishing the painting at Info Booths.
• Office work at the chamber office (contact Michelle Gittleson at 356-5701 ext. 300).
• Artificial Trees and Christmas decorations for Festival of Trees.
• China place settings and silverware for the Festival of Trees – Dinner Among the Trees on Saturday, Nov. 24.

Note:    Volunteers receive a White Mountains Attractions Pass and discounted Ski Pass and other perks.
