CALLING ALL BUSINESSES TO PARTICIPATE IN NEW PUBLIC ART MAP

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to publicize your free public artworks via the Chamber’s new art map

North Conway, NH – Beautiful works of public art grace the walkways, gardens, walls and grounds of businesses throughout Mt Washington Valley.  Recently, an impressive collection of public art pieces were added to Settlers Green, prompting interest among Mt Washington Valley businesses to create a map to help tourists tour and enjoy the myriad of beautiful sculpture, murals, paintings and unique artworks throughout the Valley.  Working to support the Mt Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce’s (MWVCC) Arts and Culture initiative, Janice Crawford, MWVCC Executive Director, Dot Seybold, General Manager of Settlers Green, and Erin Kenneally, General Manager of Cold River Graphics 3D (crg3D) will work together to create and print 10,000 art maps featuring accessible public art in the Valley.  They are seeking out as many pieces of public artworks (free for viewing) as they can identify for the map.   

Does your business display any sculpture, photograph collections, paintings, fabric art, murals, or even historic artifacts that are free for viewing?  The hope is to add all artwork, sculpture or unusual collections in museums, historic societies, galleries, libraries, theaters, restaurants, inns and hotels,  gardens, etc.  from businesses in every town throughout Mt Washington Valley to the map. “While the Valley is renowned for its outdoor and family recreation, there are a surprising number of art works including the handsome Hannes Schneider bronze at Cranmore, whimsical statues at the Eastern Slope Inn, and others that delight visitors to Mt Washington Valley. This map will allow visitors to more easily discover and enjoy them,” said Janice Crawford.  All those interested in adding their public artworks to the map should contact Janice Crawford via email at Janice@mtwashingtonvalley.org.

The largest and most recent addition of public art in Mt Washington Valley was added with the opening of Settlers Green’s new Streetside addition.  The Settlers Green developers and management team spent months collecting and reviewing proposals for the addition of tens of thousands of dollars in custom and commissioned public art for the center.  “Public art is often a dynamic and enriching encounter on its own; experiencing it while shopping is a delightful surprise to our visitors and shoppers,” explained Dot Seybold.  “In addition, today’s consumer has a strong interest in discovering local treasures. Adding stores to Settlers Green is just one piece of creating a successful shopping experience here.  Creating an experience, tied to our surroundings, is also an important part of our mission,” finished Seybold who maintains that they’ve successfully added a new attraction to the Mt Washington Valley community with the new Settlers Green artworks.  It’s Dot’s, Janice’s and Erin’s hope that by creating a map of all the public artworks in Mt Washington Valley, the tourism experience will include a new appreciation for all the unique art treasures in the Valley. 

 “When there is well thought out public art displayed it elevates the town,” said Rebecca Klementovich, one of the local artists that added public art to Settlers Green’s new Streetside addition.  “Visitors see that a town takes pride in its appearance and supports the Arts.” She explained.

Once the information is collected and artwork has been designed by Erin Kenneally, 10,000 maps will be printed and distributed locally to businesses, lodging properties, restaurants and Info Centers in and around Mt Washington Valley.  In addition, the map will be added to the Chamber’s Arts Culture webpage  at ArtsMWV.com so it can be viewed digitally too.  

This project has been made possible by a collaboration between the Mt Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce and Settlers Green.

To meet the map production deadline, all businesses with free public art pieces from Tamworth to Fryeburg and Shelburne to Bretton Woods should contact Janice@MtWashingtonValley.org  by September 10, 2018.
