Memorial Day media alert from Mt Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce – May 22, 2017

ALL INDICATIONS POINT TO A SUCCESSFUL MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND IN MT WASHINGTON VALLEY SAYS MT WASHINGTON VALLEY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

North Conway, NH – An informal survey of Mt Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce lodging properties indicates that Memorial Day weekend 2017 will be strong in Mt Washington Valley, NH.  Considered a highlight of the spring season, the Memorial Day holiday will be filled with golf, attractions openings and outdoor adventure in the Valley this weekend. Come enjoy the 50 shades of green that highlight the region’s White Mountains in the height of spring, and take a self-guided waterfall tour while the water is still rushing. At this time, the weather forecast indicates a rain-free weekend, adding to the prediction for success throughout the weekend.

Lodging GMs and owners weighing into the chamber’s survey reported that reservations for Memorial Day 2017 are either even or pacing ahead of last year.  Both the White Mountain Hotel & Resort and the Omni Mount Washington Resort reported that the hotels are sold-out for the weekend (Saturday-Sunday) already, on par with last year which was a sell-out too.

Teena Kulakowski, owner of the Four Seasons Lodge in North Conway, reported that the lodge sold out for Memorial Day weekend months ago, well ahead of last year’s reservations.  

Mary Ann Mayer, owner of the Mt Washington B&B in Shelburne stated that reservations are twice as busy this year as they were last year for the Memorial Day weekend, and that advance bookings for summer and fall are looking strong too. 

John D. Lowell, President of Attitash Mountain Resort shared “We are pacing slightly ahead of last year for advanced reservations. Memorial Day weekend is traditionally a last-minute booking time. We are confident it will be a great weekend.”

Laura Gorman from Tanglewood Motel & Cottages told the chamber she believes it’ll be a strong weekend based upon present cabin rentals ahead of last year, and bookings for three days instead of last year’s two day Memorial Day weekend bookings.   

Conrad Klefos, GM at Royalty Inn in Gorham is confident that Memorial Day bookings will outpace last year “The rooms are not sold out but gaining. Since this is the first weekend of the ATV season and the weather looks good, I expect many last minute reservations and probably a sell-out,” reported Kelfos.

Thomas Prindle, Director of Marketing for Purity Spring Resort and Danforth Bay Camping & RV Resort also weighed in, telling the chamber, “Purity Spring Resort is currently pacing slightly ahead with reservations as compared to last year. Danforth Bay Camping & RV Resort is sold out and full for the weekend just as it was last year. It’s encouraging to see that demand is holding for the holiday weekend.”

While a number of the family attractions, like the Conway Scenic Railroad, the Mt Washington Cog Railway, Mt Washington Auto Road, and White Lake Speedway (weekends only right now) have already opened for the season, a number of others will make their season debut over Memorial Day weekend. Attitash Mountain Resort will be offering their Mountain Coaster, Zip Tour and scenic chair for the weekend with full operations resuming on Father’s Day weekend.  Both Story Land and Cranmore Mountain Resort’s Adventure Park will open for the season this Saturday, Sunday and Monday, and will continue to open weekends through Father’s Day, then daily afterward.  Santa’s Village will also open for the Memorial Day weekend on Saturday and Sunday, then weekends through Father’s Day and daily afterward.  For a complete listing of Mt Washington Valley attractions, with links to their websites and calendars, click here.

Mt Washington Valley’s 11 golf courses from Jefferson to Whitefield, Jackson, North Conway, Ossipee to Parsonsfield and Bridgton Maine are all in great shape and welcoming golfers for Memorial Day weekend.  Look for plenty of fun on the course and libation at the 19^th hole to celebrate Memorial Day weekend.

Shoppers will find everything from Memorial Day sidewalk sales at Settlers Green to the annual Memorial Day Artisan Craft Fair at the Gibson Senior Center in North Conway, featuring local crafters.  Visit the White Mountain Independents, identified by their blue flags, to shop local in North Conway and Jackson Villages and celebrate a 25^th anniversary at White Birch Books on Saturday. The Friends of Jackson Public Library Annual Memorial Day Book Sale is another option for book lovers this weekend too.   

Plus, the 28th Running of the Ducks will take place at the Wildquack Duck River Festival on Sunday May 28, in Jackson.  Look forward to food, duck races, kids activities, traveling train rides, 5 Minutes of Fame, Jackson Cake Boss Competition and more.  On May 27, take part or watch the zaniness of Alton Weagle Day at the Mt Washington Auto Road as participants dream up a new way to ascend the Auto Road.

“Memorial Day weekend is kind of an unofficial kick-off to the summer season,” said Janice Crawford, Executive Director of the Mt Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce. “All indications show this will be another strong holiday weekend in the Valley.  While some visitors wait to see what the weather will bring,  with a rain-free forecast for Saturday and Sunday, plus advance reservations pacing ahead for many lodging properties, we look forward to a strong three-day weekend to kick off the summer,” finished Crawford.
