MAY SHOWERS BRING ART SHOWS, SIDEWALK SALES, MAY FAIRES, LIVE ENTERTAINMENT AND MORE IN MAY-JUNE 2017

North Conway, NH – Come celebrate spring in Mt Washington Valley with everything from art, flower and sidewalk sales to crafts and drafts, and outdoor adventure.  With spring comes renewal of golf courses, family attractions and musical entertainment as the White Mountains come alive with the sights and sounds of spring.  Spring brings rushing waterfalls, budding tulips and the perfect time to putt and pedal. Plus, a packed events calendar means there’s something for everyone from cultural to athletic and family events.  Spring into spring in Mt Washington Valley with one of these special events.

MAY 2017 EVENTS IN MT WASHINGTON VALLEY, NH

May 5-6: Celebrate Art Show at Jackson Art Studio: View new work from more than 25 local artists including painting, photography, monoprints, jewelry, glass, pottery, mosaics, scarves, cards and more. Learn about our upcoming classes and workshops and enjoy a wine & cheese reception. Show continues 11am-5pm with light refreshments. Click here for more info.

May 6, 13, 20, 28: Pop Up Artisan Fairs: The Mt. Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce is offering something new. Join the fun of our pop-up Spring Artisan Fairs with select dates throughout the spring and summer. Locals and visitors who appreciate handmade quality and home grown goods will enjoy the opportunity to view and purchase the work of talented local artisans. May 8: Craft and Draft at Wildcat Inn & Tavern: What is a craft and draft? It is a group of people getting together to make a useful item from 6:00-8:00pm at Wildcat Inn & Tavern. The cost is $40 per person and includes a draft beer or glass of wine, yummy appetizers and finished product. All are welcome. Must be 21 to enjoy alcoholic beverages.  

May 12-13:  Arts, Antiques & Treasures: Taking place at Conway Market Place # 50 White Mt. Hwy unit 7 near Bea’s Café, this fabulous MWV Arts Association sale will be held 9:00am – 3:00pm. Find your treasure while supporting the MWVArts. Info: http://www.mwvarts.org.

May 13:  Half Way to Bring a Friend Weekend at Settlers Green:  Think of this as a mini-Bring-A-Friend weekend with sales, special giveaways, entertainment.  Bag giveaways with gifts and samples, raffles, in-store sales and more.  Info: www.SettlersGreen.com.

May 13:  White Mountain Waldorf School May Faire: Taking place at the North Conway Community Center in North Conway, this event is free and open to all. The decorated May Pole will be raised at 10:00 am, and the dancing and singing will begin.  Children can make and wear floral wreaths and celebrate the arrival of spring with a barbecue, live music, unique children's crafts, face painting, hair wraps and a plant sale.  Come help wake up Mother Earth! May 13: Met Opera Live in HD: The Met Opera Live in HD series presents Der Rosenkavalier at 1:00pm at the Leura Hill Eastman PAC at Fryeburg Academy in Fryeburg, ME. White Mountain Cider Co. will be serving lunch in the lobby starting at noon. Tickets: $26-Adults, $23-Seniors, $18-Students. May 14:  Mom rides free on Conway Scenic RR:  Mom rides FREE in Coach when accompanied by one or more of her children.  Mom rides FREE in First Class when accompanied by another paying adult.  Complimentary appetizers will be served on board the First-Class cars.   Info:  www.ConwayScenic.com.  

May 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 27, June 1, 2, 3: Avenue Q by M&D Playhouse: Winner of the Tony "Triple Crown" for Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book, Avenue Q is part flesh, part felt and packed with heart. The laugh-out-loud musical tells the timeless story of a recent college grad named Princeton, who moves into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q.  Presented at Your Theatre, Willow Common, 1857 White Mountain Highway, North Conway.  All performances begin at 7:30 PM. May 20: Cold River Mini Series: This show happens at the Wildcat Inn and Tavern in Jackson. Look forward to Connor Garvey & Carol Spence hosted by Jonathan Sarty. The show starts at 7:00pm with the main act at 8:00pm. The cost is $5 cover per person. This is a dinner listening show.  Call 603-383-4245 for info.

May 20-22: Victoria Day Sidewalk Sales at Settlers Green: Look for sidewalk sales at participating stores at Settlers Green and Settlers Crossing. Plus, visit Customer Service C13 for a free Canadian flag while supplies last.

May 23: Annual Mt Washington Valley Business to Business Community Expo: The Mt. Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce's Annual Community Expo is the largest business trade show in the North Country. This event includes plenty of opportunities for networking with businesses and potential customers, educational workshops, and plenty of comradery.  This year’s expo takes place at the North Conway Community Center in North Conway Village. May 28: Seacoast Wind Ensemble: White Mountain Musical Arts presents the annual Memorial Weekend Concert at 7:00 pm at the Leura Hill Eastman PAC, featuring the Seacoast Wind Ensemble. Free Admission. Info: 207-935-9232.

May 28:  Wildquack Duck Race in Jackson:  Pick your duck and come watch the annual running of the rubber duckies on the Wildcat River in Jackson.  It’s a day filled with events from food and cake contests to kids activities and so much more.  The day's events start at 8 AM. The Big Duck Race goes off at 1:45 PM and the Regular Duck Race and the Olympic Duck Race time is 2 PM. Thousands of dollars in prizes up for grabs. May 29: Memorial Day & Opening Day for Mt Washington Valley attractions:  Memorial Day marks the weekend when Mt Washington Valley’s attractions all open for the season.  Some (like Conway Scenic RR and Mt Washington Cog Railway) may open prior to that, but they’ll all open by this date. This date marks opening weekend for Story Land and Santa’s Village.  Info: Click here.

JUNE 2017 EVENTS IN MT WASHINGTON VALLEY

June 3: Annual Mountain Garden Club Spring Plant Sale at North Conway Community Center: Just when gardens are ready for planting, this spring sale will offer wide varieties of special plants lovingly cultivated by club members from their own gardens, and sometimes from gardens of area inns, etc. Included will be annuals, perennials, and hanging baskets created by Club members. At the North Conway Community Center, in North Conway Village; doors will open at 9:30 AM, and everything sells quickly. Sale ends by whenever the plants are sold or at 11:30. June 3 :  King Pine Tri & Duathlon: The 11th Annual King Pine Tri & Duathlon held at Purity Spring Resort feature both Spring and Olympic distances. Triathlon, Duathlon and Aquabike race divisions for men and women.  Info: http://kingpinetri.com/.

June 3-4: USA National Running Championships at Cranmore Mountain Resort: The weekend’s races will start on Saturday morning June 3rd with a 5k loop course on the mountain for those looking to try out mountain running. It will be followed by the men’s championship two-loop course. And then ninety minutes later, the women will run the same two-loop course as that of the men. On Sunday, an uphill mountain race will be staged. All of the races will be open to all ages and abilities, including the National Championship. Info: www.facebook.com/cranmoremountainrace.

June 9: 36th Annual Bratwurst Broil and Open House: The 36th consecutive annual Open House and Bratwurst Broil will take place on Friday June 9th, at White Mountain Oil. Vendors on hand will be Energy Star, Hearth & Home, Thermopride, FW Webb, Ray Murray, P&E, and more. Open House is 10:00-4:00 but the grills will be going from 11:00-2:00 pm only. June 10: There’s A Fly In My Eye 10 Mile Trail Race & Relay: Tackle the carriage roads, single track and a river crossing at Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center in this trail running race that's 100% New Hampshire. Race as an individual, team of 2 or team of 3.  Entry fee includes post-race BBQ for race participants.  All are encouraged to bring their own seating for the awards/BBQ. Info: Click here.

June 10 & 17: Murder Mystery Dinner Train: The Conway Scenic Railroad presents a first class evening of fabulous food, superior service and entertaining dinner theater aboard the elegant dining car Chocorua or Hattie Evans. Passengers can participate as much or as little as they like in the tongue in cheek humor and zany antics that will keep everyone on their toes as they work the clues to determine the killer on board. The train departs promptly at 6:00pm.  Plan to board early and enjoy a cocktail in one of the dining cars.   Reservations are required.  The $125.00 fare includes First Class seating for the 3-hour train excursion, a 4-course dinner, live theatrical performance, taxes and gratuities. June 10-17: Rally in the Valley: Mt Washington Valley Riders present a week of activities including guided scenic rides leaving from Bea’s Café daily, live entertainment, promotions and much more.  Schedule and info: www.rallyinthevalley.net.

June 11: The Saint Mary Schola in Concert: White Mountain Musical Arts presents The Saint Mary Schola Sunday, at 4:00pm, at First Church of Christ Congregational, North Conway. Admission is a suggested donation of $10 and will benefit the WMMA and its many programs planned for 2017. Info: www.MWVEvents.com.

June 16:  The 16th Annual MWVCC Golf Tournament:  This event brings business and community leaders together each year for a day of fun and friendly competition out on the greens. This year's tournament will be held at the North Conway Country Club, with an awards lunch and celebration to follow at the clubhouse. June 16-23: Ukulele Festival and Workshop: Presented by World Fellowship Center in Conway, this week-long event includes plenty of learning and playing opportunities, culminating in a musical jam.  Info: worldfellowship.org.

June 17: Northeast Delta Dental Mt Washington Road Race: The 57th annual “Run to the Clouds” draws thousands of runners from across New England, throughout the U.S., and from countries as close as Canada and as far away as Kenya, to make the grueling climb to the summit of the highest peak in the Northeast, Mt Washington. June 17: Summer Solstice Sizzle at Settlers Green: Join Settlers Green and Magic 104 for a live broadcast "on the green" to give away a pair of tickets to the biggest concert of the summer. June 18, July 30 & August 27:  Sunrise Drive up Mt Washington Auto Road: The Mt. Washington Auto Road opens early on three Sundays every summer, allowing guests to drive themselves to the summit of Mount Washington to view the sunrise from the highest peak in the Northeast. Due to the popularity of these sunrise opportunities, we recommend not waiting until the last minute to arrive as you may spend time waiting at the Toll House due to traffic. June 24:  Art in Bloom in Jackson Village: "Art In Bloom"– is a Walking Tour of Jackson Village for Floral Interpretations of Art. Mountain Garden Club members will evoke the spirit of an accompanying work of art at various locations throughout Jackson Village. All sites are within walking distance of each other, but ample parking is available at all tour locations. Exhibits are open from 10:00am – 4:00pm. Refreshments provided by The Mountain Garden Club are offered at the Whitney Community Center from 11:00am-3:00pm; floral design will be demonstrated by Carrie Scribner of Dutch Bloemen Winkel at the Whitney at 11:30 AM.  Info:  http://www.jacksonnh.com/event/463/Art-In-Bloom.

June 24: North Conway Strawberry Festival: The Strawberry Festival is held 11:00am -4:00pm on the North Conway Congregational Church campus in North Conway Village. The festival offers a fun day of feasting on locally grown fresh strawberries served in shortcakes, in smoothies and in hand-dipped chocolate covered treats.  There will be free kids games, balloon animals, live music and a white elephant sale of treasures.  Tours of the historic “First Church” are available to those interested in learning about the living history of the nearly 250-year-old building. Info: www.firstchurchnc.com.
