NORTH CONWAY NAMED AMONG AMERICA’S FAVORITE MOUNTAIN TOWNS BY TRAVEL & LEISURE READERS

Only New England town named

North Conway, NH – Travel + Leisure's Magazine readers had the chance to evaluate hundreds of locales in the 2016 America’s Favorite Places survey, and they have chosen North Conway, NH as the only New England mountain town in the list of top 15 Favorite Mountain Towns. While plenty of Rocky Mountain and far West towns were named, according to Travel + Leisure's editors, it’s the “storybook town center” of North Conway that readers love.

In the annual Travel + Leisure's “America's Favorite Places” survey, readers of all ages and locales were asked to evaluate hundreds of cities and towns across a range of categories. Questions on the survey ranged from the friendliness of the locals to the quality of the pizza. According to the magazine, “Unlike Travel + Leisure's World's Best Awards, which encourages readers to weigh in on travel experiences across the globe, the America's Favorite Places survey is a way for locals to share what their hometowns do best”.  When it came to New England Travel + Leisure readers conveyed that North Conway stood out among the rest, naming it the only new England or Mid Atlantic town to make the top 15 list.

When it comes to North Conway, here’s what readers said and Travel & Leisure editors wrote: “Travel + Leisure readers appreciate the storybook town center, with a white-steepled church, a turreted train station from the 1870s, and a New England general store, Zeb’s (don’t leave without stocking up on fudge). When it comes to mountain escapes, it’s clear they’re looking for more than just access to a ski lift or a pretty view. Some readers want history: a Rocky Mountain mining town reborn as a luxe resort, or a storybook New England village [like North Conway]”

North Conway is no stranger to accolades.  In 2015 North Conway, NH was named to the Best of the US 2015 list by Lonely Planet Guide authors.  The Best in the US 2015 destinations are ten places in the US that Lonely Planet authors and travel experts think travelers should add to their wish lists for the coming year. USA Today’s 10 Best Ski Towns list also included North Conway last winter coming in in the #2 place.  For two years in 2012 and 2013 when TripAdvisor completed its annual survey of affordable ski towns, North Conway was named the most affordable ski town East of the Mississippi. And in 2012 National Geographic named North Conway among the 25 top ski towns worldwide.  Yankee Magazine has also given North Conway recognition as being one of New England’s best winter towns too.  “Each time North Conway and Mt Washington Valley appear on one of these lists, it helps to seal our destination’s allure in the travelers’ minds,” commented Janice Crawford, Executive Director of the Mt Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce.  “We are grateful each time we see our name in lights on these Top 10 lists,” finished Crawford.
