From golf to gardens, Mt Washington Valley’s event calendar is packed in June & July

North Conway, NH - The Mt Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce launched “What’s Your Adventure?” an April through June campaign focused on all things spring in the Valley.  From sports, golf and outdoor events to foodie, shopping, arts and cultural ideas, one website offers up everything you need to know to plan a perfect June adventure.  Visit www.SpringMWV.com to find your perfect indoor and outdoor adventures this June.

Here’s are some of the best bets on the Mt Washington Valley events calendar for June and July.

June 1 – 12:  Springing into Summer Festival: Jackson Area businesses will be offering open houses, gift give a-ways, drink tastings, special dining experiences, lodging specials, food tastings, and the all new Exquisite Gardens of Jackson Tour. June 2, 9, 16, 23, 30:  Solomon Spring Trails Run/Walk series at Great Glen Trails: A weekly trail race series for all abilities and ages. Every Thursday for eight weeks racers can run or walk the long, short or mini courses between 3:30 and 7:00 p.m. Awards, raffle and fun potluck June 30th. Price: Adults: $9, Kids: $2. June 2: Hiroya Tsukamoto at Medallion Opera House, 7:00pm: This guitarist and composer from Kyoto, Japan has been performing internationally including several appearances at Blue Note in New York.  Hiroya developed unique acoustic music which is described as "New folkloric music.". June 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 15:  Bicknell’s Thrush Tours: The Mt Washington Auto Road offers birders a unique guided opportunity to view the rare Bicknell’s Thrush in its breeding habitat from 6:00am - 8:00am. It is the rarest and most secretive of the breeding thrushes in North America and it is the only bird whose breeding is restricted to the Northeastern part of the continent. June 4:  Annual Mountain Garden Club Spring Plant Sale at North Conway Community Center, 9:30 till 11:30 am: Appreciated by plant enthusiasts far and wide, this event offers plants carefully cultivated by Mountain Garden Club members, plus garden sundries created by the MGC’s talented members. Whether to enhance your own gardens, or to provide a unique gift for others, you won’t want to miss this eagerly awaited plant sale. June 4: There’s a Black Fly In my Eye Race: An exciting 10-mile trail race at Great Glen Trails. A mix of carriage roads, single track and the famous river crossing before the short climb to the finish line. Race solo or as a team of 2 or 3. Race starts at 10am. June 5, 12, 19, 26: Horse Pal Sundays at Farm by the River B&B and Stables: This is a great opportunity for children to learn about horses. Children must be 6 yrs old and up and includes barn fun, grooming a horse, a gift from the Farm by the River and one 15-minute pony ride and a gift from the Farm by the River. Cost $38. Or if the child is over 10 yrs old, a 1 hour horseback ride can be substituted for a pony ride. Cost: $70. Call for advanced reservations 9am-5pm. June 5: Danforth Bay Walk/Run series :  This is #2 of five races in the 25-mile Walk/Run series.  This race is a 5k Walk/Run to benefit Cynthia’s Challenge. Registration starts at 7:30am at the starting area by the Bluffs entrance gate and is $30. Info: http://www.danforthbay.com/RunDanforth25K.

June 10:  Jen’s Friends Golf Scramble at North Conway CC: Entry fee includes greens fees, golf cart, dinner, goodie bag, prizes and LOTS OF FUN!! Raffles, Contests, and Games Choose from 18 holes at either North Conway County Club or Hale’s Location Golf Course. June 10:  35th Bratwurst Broil and Open House at White Mountain Oil:  This annual event is one that customers look forward to all year.  Bratwurst served up and vendors include Energy Star, Hearth & Home, Nelson & Small, Thermopride, FW Webb, Ray Murray, and more. Open House is 10:00-4:00 but the grills will be going from 11:00-2:00 pm only. Info: www.whitemountainoil.com.

June 11:  Doors, Porches & Sidewalk Stroll: Join more than 10 Jackson Area premiere properties you stroll around and see how they have adorned their doorways, porches and walkways with flowers and spring attire.  Each property will offer a refreshing beverage and a light snack too. June 11 & 18: Saturday, June 11, Murder Mystery Dinner Train, Conway Scenic RR, North Conway Village, NH: A fabulous night of hijinks and murder aboard the Conway Scenic RR. First class seating, a five course dinner and interactive improv theater presented by Arts in Motion Theater Company. For tickets call 1-800 -232-5251. 

June 13 & 16: Ride to the Sky on Mt Washington Auto Road:  The Mt Washington Auto Road is open to motorcycles only on these days when bikers rule the road.  Guided van rides available but the road is closed to drive-yourself cars.  Weather dependent.  Info: http://mtwashingtonautoroad.com/events/ride-to-the-sky

June 18:  MWV Children’s Museum Fairies Festival: Join the MWV Children’s Museum’s cast of players as they transform the base of Cranmore Ski Mountain into a magical wonderland. From 11:00am to 2:00pm enjoy singing, dancing, band music, over 100 fairy houses, arts and crafts, live performing artists, face painting, bubbles, gorgeous costuming, photography, live animals, raffles and prizes. Free admission but donations are requested for some of the activities and appreciated. Food available for purchase at Zip’s Pub. Come to the event in costume with the chance to win a prize. June 18:  Northeast Delta Dental Mount Washington Road Race: Runners from around the globe come to the Mt. Washington Auto Road to take on the fabled climb up 7.6 miles of the Auto Road. Auto Road closed to public vehicles and guided tours until 1:30pm. Start: 9:00am.  Info: www.mountwashingtonroadrace.com.

June 18:  Summer Solstice Sizzle:  Summer shopping season gets a jump start at Settlers Green with giveaways, promotional items and more. Info: www.settlersgreen.com/events.

Saturday, June 25, Opening day of the North Conway Farmers Market, North Conway Community Center, North Conway Village.

June 25:  North Conway Strawberry Festival: The Strawberry Festival will be held June 25 from 11 am until 4 pm on the North Conway Congregational Church campus in North Conway Village. The festival offers a fun day of feasting on locally grown fresh strawberries served in shortcakes, in smoothies and in hand-dipped chocolate covered treats.  There will be free kids games, balloon animals, live music and a white elephant sale of treasures.  Several beautiful and very rare antique wagons will be on display courtesy of Sut Marshall and several antique cars courtesy of Bob Holmes.  Tours of the historic “First Church” are available to those interested in learning about the living history of the nearly 250 year-old building. Info: www.firstchurchnc.com.

June 24:  Live Outdoor Concert in Gorham: Bad Gravity will perform a live outdoor concert at the Gazebo on the Gorham Town Common at 6:30 pm. Donations are gratefully accepted.  ATV parking is available on Railroad Street. Hosted by Medallion Opera House.  Info: www.medallionoperahouse.org.

June 25: Art in Bloom: A walking tour and floral interpretation of art in Jackson: The Mountain Garden Club’s Annual Gift to the Valley is a Walking Tour of Jackson Village for Floral Interpretations of Art. Start at any of eight sites and pick up a map and list of exhibits, stop at a local restaurant for lunch, and enjoy floral designs created by Mountain Garden Club members to evoke the spirit of an accompanying work of art. Exhibits are open from 10:00am until 4:00pm. Refreshments are offered at the Whitney Community Center from 11:00am – 3:00pm; floral design demonstration at 11:30am.  Info: www.mountaingardenclub.org.

June 25:  Autism Awareness Walk at Story Land, 8:30am: Join Autism Speaks, Story Land and advocates from Maine, NH, and VT and walk to raise money and awareness for all of those who struggle with autism spectrum disorder. *Pre-Registration is required for this event. Admission fee is $20.00 per person (ages 3 and up) and includes admission to Story Land, access to incentive tickets (based on fundraising) and a chance to cut the ribbon during the Walk start! July 1-30:  Where’s Waldo? Find Waldo all over town in the month of July! The Find Waldo Local Campaign begins on Friday, July 1, at White Birch Books and other locally owned businesses across the nation. The event leads participants on a scavenger hunt through the Mt Washington Valley business district on a search for the elusive, red-and-white-stripe wearing picture book character. Spot Waldo at participating local businesses in July to be eligible for prizes throughout the month. The celebration then concludes with wrap-up party at White Birch Books at the end of the month. Participants will get a “bingo” card with all of the participating businesses listed and can get started from the bookstore on July 1st. Info: www.whitebirchbooks.com.

July 2:  Fireworks in Jackson: Jackson Village & the surrounding communities come together to celebrate Independence Day. The skies light up approximately 9:00pm-ish. Info: www.jacksonnh.com/event/316/Fireworks.

July 3:  July 4th Celebration in Fryeburg: Enjoy an old fashioned rural village celebration of Independence Day. July 4:  July 4th festivities in Conway & North Conway: It all starts with the Conway Village – Parade at 1:30pm.  Then the fun moves to Schouler Park after 3:00pm where Motor Booty Affair will be on hand with live music and entertainment will also include an appearance by the Local Song of the Year winner, vendors supporting local non-profits in the area will be on hand too. July 12, 19, 26, August 2, 9, 16, 23: Movies on the Green at Settlers Green:  Bring lawn chairs and a picnic or enjoy food available there. Each Tuesday a different family-oriented movie will be shown. Activities start at 6:00pm, movies shown at dusk.   Free. Info: www.settlersgreen.com/events.

July 5, 12, 19, 26, August 2, 9, 16, 23:  M&M Assurance Summer Bike Series: A weekly bike race series for all abilities and ages at Great Glen Trails. Every Tuesday for eight weeks racers compete on the long, short or mini courses between 3:30 and 7:00 p.m. Awards, raffle and fun potluck August 23rd.  Adults: $60, kids 17 and under: $30 for the eight-week series. July 9 & 30: Sunset Paddling on the Androscoggin: Paddling by sunset brings a whole new environment of sights, sounds and wildlife to the largest river north of Mt. Washington. Guided sunset tours along a pristine stretch of the Androscoggin River are now offered four times this summer. $80 pp prior paddling experience advised. Meet at Great Glen at 5:30pm

July 14:  The Beach Boys Concert presented by Arts Jubilee:  The season opener for the Arts Jubilee series, the goal of the show is to recreate the magic and essence of the 60s on the California beaches. Bring your own seating. The concert takes place at Cranmore Mountain Resort and starts at 6:00pm with the Mt Washington Valley Community Band opening and then a 7:00pm show.  Adults: $10, Seniors: $8.00, kids (12 and under): free. July 16:  Full Moon Midnight Owl 15K Race: Walk or Run under the beauty of a full moon but be smart as an owl in predicting how long it will take for you to go 15K. Winners are the first five runners to cross the finish line AFTER MIDNIGHT. Estimate how long you will take to cover the Garmin measured 15K (9.3 mile) course and start when the countdown clock at the start line reads that time. NO WATCHES ALLOWED. This race course starts in North Conway Village's Schouler Park, proceeds to River and West Side Roads past the Saco River and through beautiful farmland to Conway Village and then the Ham Ice Arena.

July 21: Arts Jubilee presents “Old Friends: Remembering Simon & Garfunkel”: Old Friends is a stunning recreation of Simon & Garfunkel’s 1981 concert in Central Park – one of the largest and most beloved concerts of all time. Bring your own seating. The concert takes place at Cranmore Mountain Resort and starts at 6:00pm with an opener presented by Mountain Top Music and then a 7:00pm show.  Adults: $10, Seniors: $8.00, kids (12 and under): free. July 22 – Aug 21: Ski Liquidators Annual Tent Sale: Now’s the time to get great deals on last year’s equipment.  It takes place under the tent in North Conway Village, next to the North Conway Rec Center.  Info: 603-356-6999.

July 28:  Making Strides Against Breast Cancer KICKOFF:  The American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer KICKOFF is happening at the new Community Center.  The public is welcome to join in as to kick off the next few months until the walk in October.  Flatbread Pizza is generously donating food.  Info: makingstrideswalk.org/northconwaynh.

July 29, 30, 31: Day Out with Thomas – Ready Set Go 2016 Tour: Everyone’s favorite #1 engine returns to North Conway with Percy for a fun-filled event the whole family will enjoy.  In addition to a ride with Thomas, the ticket price includes unlimited motorcar rides, bouncy houses, mini-golf, a visit with Sir Topham Hatt, engine tours, and all the activities in Imagination Station, which is staffed and run by the Mt.
