Big Dave’s Bagels & Deli takes top honors at 13th Annual Chili Cook-off on February 27

North Conway, NH – More than 400 people came out on Saturday, February 27th to attend the 13th Annual Mt Washington Valley Chili Cook-off.  Twenty-Nine different chili’s were presented by professional and non-profit chefs and restaurants.  More than 19 different businesses also participated by serving tastings and offering promotions in their North Conway Village stores as part of the “Chilly Stroll”. 

All professional chefs served up their tasty chili’s at the Gibson Center for Senior Services.  Big Dave’s Bagels & Deli took top honors for Best Chili.  Chief Judge was Bryant Alden, Chef from Wildcat Tavern, assisted by six individuals from the White Mountain Culinary Associations and two food writers from Taste of the Seacoast and New Hampshire Magazine judged the professional category and awarded a $300 prize to Dave Hausman, co-owner of Big Dave’s Bagels & Deli.  Each ticket holder was given the chance to vote for their favorite chili, thus determining the People’s Choice Award. Once again, Big Dave’s Bagels & Deli took the honors as the people’s favorite, winning the People’s Choice Award honors.  The Stow Corner Store won the “Best Cornbread” distinction and Chef’s Bistro was chosen for the best display. 

Across the street, at the North Conway Community Center, non-professional and non-profit organizations kept the heat on offering their own cornbread and chili tastings, along with creative booth displays too.  Again, ticket holders were allowed to vote for their favorite chili to determine a People’s Choice Award winner.  The People’s Choice Award went to Leadership MWV, sponsored by the Red Jacket Mountain View Resort. A $125 prize, which helps in their annual fundraising to support the repayment of student loans was awarded to Leadership MWV. The second place People’s Choice went to the Vaughan Center, sponsored by Hannaford and a $100 prize was awarded. The third place People’s Choice award was given to Mt. Washington Valley Promotions, sponsored by Eastern Propane, and a $75 cash award resulted.  The American Cancer Society/Making Strides Breast Cancer Walk, sponsored by Stonehurst Manor won the non-profit category for the Best Cornbread and the Most Creative Table award among non-profits went to the American Cancer Society/Making Strides Breast Cancer Walk, sponsored by Stonehurst Manor for their very pink display. 

The 13th Annual Chili Cook-off was presented by the Mt Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce with help from sponsors including Eastern Propane as Premier Sponsor, Varsity Beverage; Pepsi as Cayenne Sponsor, Lindt Chocolate, Cabot Cheese, Green Thumb Farm, Ragged Mountain, and Tuckerman Brewing with Horsefeathers, North Conway Community Center and Gibson Senior Center as Host Sponsors.
