OH WHAT FUN IT IS TO RIDE IN A ONE HORSE OPEN SLEIGH

With all the recent snow that’s fallen in Mt Washington Valley, why not indulge in the ultimate romantic ride?  Mt Washington Valley offers a number of different options for sleigh rides from cozy and cuddly to family oriented.  Thinking of making February the month for that special proposal?  We’ve got the perfect idea! Take a sleighride and ask her (or him) to marry you along the way.  Here’s a look at some of the sleighride options available in Mt Washington Valley.

Fireside Sleigh Rides is a favorite among families.  It starts in Conway with a sleigh driven by Percheron horses and a warm hot chocolate or cider as you board your sleigh.  Take in views of the Saco River with the White Mountains as the backdrop with Mount Chocorua, The Moats and Mount Washington and end the ride with a campfire and s’mores.  Memorable, for sure!

Couples, double dates or groups of five to twelve people can book a private sleigh ride with Fireside Sleigh Rides. Groups of two or four will enjoy a ride in an elegant Hudson Valley Vis-à-Vis sleigh with plush upholstery. Relax on velvet seats with warm, wool blankets as you take in the surrounding scenery. Larger groups will board the “Big Red” bobsled sleigh that can hold up to twelve people, where you will enjoy your ride from hay bales with a warm, wool blanket for comfort. Private rides are $80.00 for two people, $95.00 for three people or $110.00 for four people. A group rate for five people in the bobsled sleigh is $125.00 and $20.00 for each additional person. When booking a group ride with less than twelve people in your group, you may be paired with other families booking aride.. Children under five are free. If your focus is on romance, the Farm by the River Bed and Breakfast & Stables features romance package complete with a stay at the country inn, full breakfast and a sleigh ride experience. Some of their sleigh ride packages also include a gourmet dinner at a featured dining establishment recommended by the innkeepers. Elopement packages  include a stay in a deluxe room with a two-person whirlpool tub and fireplace, full breakfast each morning, sleigh ride and complimentary bottle of champagne or sparkling cider, small cake OR chocolates waiting for you in your room. A Justice of the Peace is also onsite for an additional fee to complete your wedding getaway. Imagine making your proposal on a private sleigh ride overlooking Cranmore Mountain lit up in the background.

Farm by the River Bed and Breakfast also offers family adventures including an overnight stay, full breakfast and a sleigh ride for families of four. Family fun and romantic getaways can also be had at the Omni Mount Washington Resort. Explore the grounds of this historic, grand hotel and the surrounding White Mountain National Forest from a horse-drawn sleigh. Group and private rides are regularly scheduled. The sleigh ides leaves the Bretton Woods Stables Monday through Saturday at various times throughout the day and early evening. Sleigh rides vary from $15 for children on a group ride to $105 per couple on a private ride.  Children under five are free with an adult.  Ask about pricing when you call for a required reservation at 603-278-8989.

Purity Spring Resort offers good old fashioned family-fun with sleigh rides that go through open fields and pastures,  spruce-lined and backcountry trails, and around the resort. Every Saturday evening, beginning at 5:30pm rides are available for a tour throughout Madison’s scenery.  Sleigh rides are $22.00 per person and free for kids three and under. Reservations are recommended and additional sleigh rides are offered during holiday and vacation periods. To reserve your spot on a Purity Spring’s horse drawn sleigh ride, call 603-367-8896. Consider booking dinner beforehand at Traditions Restaurant, located on the grounds of the resort and then end your sleigh ride with New England style dining with fine cocktails and hot chocolate or cider to help warm up after the ride.
