SIX FAMILY FRIENDLY HALLOWEEN EVENTS THAT WON’T SCARE….TOO MUCH!
Mt Washington Valley offers plenty of pumpkin and candy filled events designed to celebrate Halloween but not scare the pants off the kids.
North Conway, NH – Halloween may be filled with ghosts and goblins, but like Casper they don’t have to be too scary. Mt Washington Valley certainly offers their share of “scare-the-pants-off” fun, but alongside are plenty of family-friendly events meant for all ages. Here are five family-friendly events to which you won’t be afraid to bring any size kid or adult.
5th Annual Halloween Town at Camp Tohkomeupog - October 25: For those in rural areas the traditional ability to “trick-or-treat” is somewhat limited where houses are few and far between, so starting at 3:00pm this East Madison boy’s camp is transformed into a Halloween happening kind of place. There will be a food court, bouncy house, face painting and kid carnival games. The “Halloweenie Walk” is designed for younger children. Older children will enjoy the Trick or Treat Trail from 4:00-8:00pm with a little more adventurous route; flashlights and appropriate footwear are recommended. Walking the ‘Trick-or-Treat Trail’ at Halloween Town has become known as a safe, entertaining way for kids to celebrate the holiday. This event benefits the Laura Foundation for Autism and Epilepsy. Return of the Pumpkin People, October 1-31: Nearly 75 businesses throughout Mt Washington Valley will create “pumpkin people” displays, each utilizing at least one pumpkin in a sometimes scary but mostly whimsical display to celebrate Halloween. This year the tour has been extended throughout the entire month of October. Take a self-guided tour of the pumpkin people displays throughout the region and be on the look-out for the official logo identifying each host property. Maps and "People's Choice" ballots will be available at all participating properties and at the Jackson Chamber of Commerce in Jackson Village. October 18, 25: Silly Spooky Halloween Extravaganza at Santa’s Village: Santa is busy gearing up for the holidays, so he’s left the park to the Silly Nilly Witch of the North, who will be on board to is stir up her own spooky brew and some Halloween fun. Santa’s Village will be transformed into a magical Halloween adventure the two Saturdays before Halloween. There are "spooky" areas for the older children; some "fun" areas for the younger goblins. Shops cater to the Trick or Treaters, and it's much more fun if you arrive in costume. Even the Silly Helpers are dressed for the occasion. Rides and food shops will be open too. It's silly. Admission for the entire day is $24.00 per person. This includes all the rides and festivities for the day. Last ticket will be sold 2 hours before closing. Pumpkin Patch Express, October 17, 18, 19, 24, 25, 26 : Special Halloween trains travel to the “Pumpkin Patch” (White Mountain Cider Company in nearby Glen), where everyone gets off the train, and each child gets to pick out their own pumpkin Every one’s encouraged to wear costumes. All departures are from the North Conway Station. Departures that travel directly to the Pumpkin Patch leave at 1:30pm, Friday-Sunday, with an extra 3:00pm departure on Saturday only. The 11:30am Bartlett Valley Train also stops at the Pumpkin Patch on its return to North Conway. Kids under 4 ride free in coach. Haunted Happenings at Settlers’ Green Outlet Village, Saturday, Oct 25, 10am-2pm: While Mom conjures up some of the most chilling deals at name brand outlet stores here the kids are finding their own great deal. Free candy! There will be Halloween treats for all costumed characters up to age 11 at stores throughout Settlers’ Green (while supplies last). While the costumes might be gory and scary, the safe trick-or-treating is a comfort for Mom and Dad. Info: www.Settlersgreen.com.
October 31: Trick or Treat Sweet Street, Jackson Village, NH: Visit Jackson on Halloween from 4:00-6:00pm and you’ll find a safe old fashioned community trick or treat Block Party for children 13 and under, accompanied by their parents or guardian. Children will stroll through designated businesses on Main Street and collect goodies from displays at local businesses and families, and then register their spooky carved pumpkin in the “Spooky Carved Pumpkin contest. Afterward, join the Spooktacular Costume Parade and play follow the leader through town. Stay warm by the harvest bonfire, drink cider and enjoy some old fashioned "Trick or Treat" fun.
