NORTH CONWAY, N.H. — Live, from North Conway's Hog Coliseum, it's “Muddy Night LIVE!!!”,  Sept. 6-8, 2013

Mud Bowl, the world championships of mud football, returns to North Conway's Hog Coliseum Friday through Sunday, Sept. 6 through 8, and will celebrate a theme that parodies some of the best skits from NBC-TV's “Saturday Night Live” program.

From (land-) Mudsharks and Killer Bees, to Mud Gumbys, the Blues Brothers, and more, the weekend of fun, mud football and family entertainment. Great food, footbal toss games for kids and halftime musical skits also part of the fun.

This year celebrates the 31st annual “Tournament of Mud Parade.” Set for Saturday, Sept. 7, at 10 a.m. it proceeds from John Fuller Elementary School south down White Mountain Highway in North Conway Village and culminates with team float skits in front of the reviewing stand across from the Conway Scenic Railroad's North Conway Train Station. The parade features an open and a team class. 

Ten teams from throughout New England play a good clean game of football in knee-deep mud in the 17-game, double-elimination tournament, culminating in the championship game on Sunday, Sept. 8.

The six-time champion Nashua Mud Gumbys are the defending champions, having defeated the 2005 champion North Shore Mudsharks 12-0 to win their second straight title at the 2012 Mud Bowl. Other teams include the 18-time champion Muddas Football Club of Amherst, the 11-time champion Mount Washington Valley Hogs, the North Country Mud Crocs; the Carrabasset Valley Rats, who founded the sport in 1972 in Kingfield, Maine; the Cumberland (R.I.) Muckaneers, the 2001 champion Merrimack Mudcats of Franklin, N.H.; the Peabody Predators, and the Mud Ducks of Beverly, Mass.

Teams are cheered on by squads of cheerleaders who vie all weekend for team spirit awards.

Proceeds from the zany championships benefit charities in Mount Washington Valley. First held in a corn field in North Conway in 1976, the games have raised nearly $800,000 for charities over the years.

Tickets are on sale in advance at the North Conway Community Center, Hannaford, The Met, the Mt Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce and North Conway Day Care. Three-day tickets serve as raffle prize entries. Three-day tickets are $10; day tickets are $6 ages 14 and up, and $4 ages 6 to 13; family tickets (two adults, two children) are $15 per day.

Three-day tickets serve as entry to two $500 prize drawings (one need not be present to win).
