JULY – SEPTEMBER EVENTS IN MT WASHINGTON VALLEY, NH

Every Wednesday through August: Wednesdays at Wildcat:  Join a naturalist from Tin Mountain Conservation Center to explore and understand the incredible natural features at Wildcat Mountain and its surrounding environment. Program topics rotate weekly and include the ecology of Wildcat’s stocked fishing pond, alpine ecology, the geology of the White Mountains and the exploration of Thompson Brook Falls. Programs are free* to attend and ideal for families. (*High alpine programs require gondola ticket purchase.)

Every Tuesday in July and August:  Movies on the Green at Settlers’ Green: Settlers' Green is hosting Movies on the Green every Tuesday in July & August. A giant sixteen-foot movie screen and Blu-Ray projector, comfy outdoor lounge chairs for the first 30 guests, full dinner menu, ice cream and popcorn are all available on the lawn on a warm summer night! Movies start at dusk and are all G or PG rated family films. July 20-21, Mt Washington Observatory Seek the Peak Hike-a-thon: Hikers from all across the country will convene on Mount Washington for the 12th annual Seek the Peak hike-a-thon , the largest annual fundraiser for the nonprofit Mount Washington Observatory. A record-breaking crowd of more than 500 hikers are expected to make a bid for the 6,288-foot summit, vying for views, bragging rights, and an unprecedented lineup of prizes and fundraising incentives. Interested hikers are encouraged to register soon, to give themselves time to meet the event’s $200 fundraising minimum and start working towards the incentives. Seek the Peak is open to hikers of all ages and abilities, and registration is free. There is no timed start, and participants may ascend the peak via the trail of their choice. July 29: Sunrise Ride on the Auto Road: The Mt. Washington Auto Road will open early at 4:00am on July 29 allowing guests to drive themselves to the summit of Mt. Washington to view the sunrise from the highest peak in the Northeast. Regular Drive Yourself rates and Vehicle Restrictions apply. The Mt. Washington Auto Road recommends not waiting until the last minute to arrive as you may spend a few additional minutes at the Toll House due to traffic.

August 4:  Attitash BlueberryFest: Attitash means “blueberry” in the Abenaki language, and what better time of the year than August when wild blueberries are in full bloom to celebrate summer at Attitash Mountain Resort. Join the fun at Bear Peak for a family-friendly festival of good ‘ol fashioned American fun, with field games, live music, BBQ food, craft and beer vendors and, of course, a blueberry pie-eating contest. August 6: Celebrate CSRR birthday: Help the Conway Scenic RR to celebrate their 38th Birthday by taking an old-fashioned train ride to Conway or Bartlett. All fares are half price (does not include dining car), and children under 4 ride free in Coach! Each passenger will receive cake and lemonade when their train returns to the station. August 9:  Arts Jubilee Outdoor Concert with Symphony Pops and Fireworks: Enjoy the last of the Arts Jubilee concerts at Cranmore Mountain Bring friends and family plus your own picnic blanket or lawn chairs. An early concert by area performers, is at 6 PM, the main performance is at 7:00 PM featuring "Symphony Pops and Fireworks!" Concerts are presented outdoors in nature's beautiful setting with mountain views at the base of the north slope at Cranmore Mountain Resort, North Conway, NH. August 11-12: 24 Hours of Great Glen: From 12:00-12:00 it’s a 24-hour mountain bike race on the trail system of Great Glen, but it's also a weekend full of bike fun and games for the entire family. Come watch the fun or volunteer. Info: 603-466-2333 or www.24hoursofgreatglen.com.

August 10,11, 17, 18: Arts in Motion Presents Charlotte’s Web: Arts In Motion present's: Charlotte's Web at the Leura Hill Eastman Performing Arts Center. Who would have thought we could learn all we need to know about friendship through a spider and a pig? Arts In Motion brings us this wonderful musical, based on the Newbery Medal winning book by E.B. White, Charlotte's Web is a heart-warming play exploring love and friendship - as only animals know how. With Wilbur fearful about being removed from the farm, Charlotte concocts a plan to save her closest friend. No matter how tangled their webs may weave, Charlotte and her portly friend Wilbur demonstrate the value of true friendship. August 18-19: White Mountain Arts Festival: Jackson, New Hampshire invites you to experience the world of art through the work of over 40 artists in Jackson Village Park. This  juried exposition features works by artists presenting sculpture, glass and wood arts, ceramics, fiber arts, fine arts and jewelry for sale at all price points. There will be live musical performances throughout the weekend, including a local favorite “Calico Slim”. A "Kids Creating" tent is great for younger artists where kids can learn to create their own pieces of art by way of crafts, sand art, sculpting, beading and t-shirt decorating. Donations welcome. August 24-26: White Mountain Musical Arts 24^th Annual Bach Festival: White Mt. Musical Arts Presents: The 24th Annual Bach Festival at the Leura Hill Eastman Performing Arts Center at 7:30 PM. Starting with the Family BachFest on August 24 featuring Bach, beer and brat, this festival will present several opportunities to hear and learn about Bach and his fellow composers and the wonderful chamber music of the Baroque era. Approximately eighty musicians, professional and amateur, will gather for the weekend event to perform the great instrumental and vocal works of the Baroque masters. September 7, 8, 9:  Mudbowl: Championships of Mud Football present “Mud Musical”: Mud Bowl, the world championships of mud football, takes place at Hog Coliseum behind the North Conway Community Center. The 30th annual “Tournament of Mud Parade” is set for Saturday, Sept. 8, at 10 a.m. This year's parade theme is “Mud Bowl, the Musical.” Ten teams from throughout New England compete in three-day touch football tourney which benefits local charities. September 7, 8, 9 Muster in the Mountains at MW Auto Road: This weekend long event is a colonial encampment of reenactors representing various individuals of the French and Indian War, Revolutionary War, and Mountain Man periods from 1750 through 1840. This gathering will take place in the Fields of the Mount Washington Auto Road in Pinkham Notch. Participants will demonstrate the use of appropriate tools, clothing, and firearms for their respective time periods. This event is free and open to the general public with the hope that the education they receive here may spur them on to consider becoming a future participant. Activities will include 1800 Firearms & Cannon Display & Competition, Woods Walk Competition, Tomahawk and Knife Throwing, Cooking Competition, A mock battle on Sunday, Weaving, Basketmaking, Quill work, Candle Dipping, Gunsmithing, Coppersmithing, Blacksmithing, Archery, Wood Carving, Century Games and more! Sept 8-9: 73rd & 74th Carroll County Kennel Club All Breed Dog Show & Obedience Trial: The Carroll County Kennel Club will hold its All-Breed Dog Show & Obedience Trial at E. R. Hussey Field, North Conway. Judging starts at 8:00Am, Saturday will feature a Puppy Gala for puppies 6 to 9mos. Puppies will compete for Best Puppy in Show. There will be vendors with dog related items and food will be available. Bring a chair and a picnic lunch and cheer your favorite breed on. Come see familiar breeds and some not so familiar. September 9: Old Car Show at Settlers’ Green: More than  300 cars, trucks, motorcycles including antique, classic and special interest vehicles compete for cash and trophy awards in 8 categories. 9am to 2pm at Settlers Green. September 15:  Jackson Covered Bridge 10K Foot Race:  A challenging 10K course winding through quaint Jackson Village and along the scenic Jackson Falls. The course includes 1.5 mile uphill at the start rising about 500 feet in elevation to benefit the Jackson Chamber in bringing free events to visitors and residents alike. September 21, 22, 23: NH Highland Games & Festival: The largest Scottish festival in the Northeast, celebrating everything Scottish - food, music, culture, dancing, athletics and more! September 22:  Walk for the Animals & Bark in the Park: The 15th Annual Walk for the Animals and Bark in the Park to benefit the Animal Rescue League of NH-North will take place in Schouler Park in North Conway, NH. September 28: Speakeasy-A 1920's Casino Night: 6:30pm-11:00pm Step back in time for a 1920's Speakeasy, featuring a casino night, great food, a Mead tasting, and live entertainment throughout the evening! Guests can redeem casino winnings for tickets towards fabulous prizes! Proceeds to benefit Arts in Motion, a local theater company. September 30-October 7: Fryeburg Fair: This is Maine's Blue Ribbon Classic and the largest agriculture fair in Maine! Eight days of entertainment and education for the whole family. A variety of livestock, draft show horses and ponies, pulling horses and oxen, a forestry research center, an agricultural exhibition center, crafts, a flower show, educational exhibitions and demonstrations, sheep dog trials and a huge parade on Saturday. A thrilling midway with amusement rides and delicious food. Live music all day, and nightly entertainment. The Fair attracts upwards of 300,000 visitors each year.
