North Conway, NH – Spring is fully underway in Mt Washington Valley, and the calendar of events is filled with adventure, live performances and sporting events. This is family time in Mt Washington Valley, and a wide range of events for all ages create reasons to visit our little corner of the White Mountains. With events starting on Memorial Day this is the perfect time of year to plan your Mt Washington Valley escape around a fun-filled calendar.
May 24: Red Parka Grownup Prom: Get our your puffed sleeves, big hair & powder blue tuxedos and dance the night away to DJ Matt Spoffard at this grown-up 80s prom. May 26: Alton Weagle Day: A celebration of all the “firsts” at the Mt. Washington Auto Road in honor of true grit. Alton Weagle had a passion for Mt. Washington. To show his passion, he climbed the Mt. Washington Auto Road in a number of unique ways: by car, on foot, walking backwards, pushing a wheelbarrow full of sugar. This day honors his spirit and the spirit of all those from camels to unicycles to pogo sticks to autos who have been the first up the mountain. May 27: Jackson Wildquack Duck River Festival: Watching more than 3,500 yellow rubber ducks make their way down the Wildcat River to the finish line will excite the child in all of you. The prizes are incredible offering more than $2,500 in cash and 60 other prizes including vacation stays, dining certificates, spa treatments, gift baskets, attractions tickets and so much more. There’ll be barbeque foods offered by local and visiting chefs, kettle corn, ice cream, lobster sandwiches and more. May 27: Seacoast Wind Ensemble: In the style of a Sousa Band, The Seacoast Wind Ensemble will honor area Veterans and provide a musical salute to thank those that served in the armed forces to preserve our nation and insure our freedom. May 28: Free Golf & BBQ for Military & First Responders: In recognition of all they do, Province Lake Golf a Memorial Day Appreciation Golf Outing and Barbecue for all active/retired military and local first responders. It's a day of free golf and barbecue for those individuals and spouse. Active and retired military, firefighters, police and emergency medical personnel are treated to a free round of cart with a cart and a BBQ with their spouse. June 2: Victorian Tea at Captain Enoch Remick House: Come for a nostalgic afternoon of Victorian-style tea in the historic Captain Enoch Remick House featuring a seasonally inspired menu of cakes, scones, sandwiches and freshly brewed teas. June 2: MWV Garden Club Annual Plant Sale: Tis the time to plant, and the Mountain Garden Club members start early in the year to cultivate those special plants from their gardens that are sold at the Annual Plant Sale. Held on Saturday, June 2nd at the North Conway Community Center adjacent to Schouler Park in North Conway Village, starting at 9:30 AM, this is one plant sale you won’t want to miss. Most everything sells out in the first hour, so be sure to come EARLY. Perennials, annuals, houseplants, hanging baskets and herbs from members’ gardens and flowers and shrubs donated from local nurseries will be on sale. June 2: Free Fishing Day at Wildcat Mountain: Rain or shine join in with Representatives and volunteers from the U.S. Forest Service and Appalachian Mountain Club will provide a day's wealth of experience and knowledge to help the beginning angler get started from 10am to 3pm. Participants, who register on the morning of the event receive a “passport” outlining 5 stations that must be completed before they can begin fishing. Educational and instructional skill stations will include: Knot Tying; Fish ID; Casting; Ecology; Macro Invertebrates; and Fishing. Each station activity will take 15-20 minutes to complete and once an activity has been completed, the passport will be stamped and the aspiring angler will be one step closer to casting a line in the stocked fishing pond! June 2-3: Inn to Inn Herb Tour: Why not make the first weekend in June one totally dedicated to plants and take part in the annual Inn to Inn Herb Tour sponsored by the Country Inns in the White Mountains. Join 10 premier Inns in the Mount Washington Valley for the 4TH Annual Inn to Inn Spring Herb Tour from 11am-4pm on both June 2 and June 3, 2012, as each inn presents an in-depth look at a popular culinary herb. You’ll take home trivia, historical facts, recipes and ideas for growing the seeds & seedlings you receive from each inn, just in time for the spring planting season. June 19: JAILHOUSE ROCK, Dinner and a Movie: Vince Everett is serving a one-year jail sentence for manslaughter. While in the big house, his cellmate, a former country singer, introduces him to the record business. Everett takes to it so well that he decides to become a singer when he gets out. However, he is quickly disillusioned by the record business. But with the help of a new friend, he decides to form his own label, and soon becomes an overnight sensation. June 24: Sunrise Drive: The Mt. Washington Auto Road will open early on three Sundays in 2012, on June 24, July 29 and August 26, allowing guests to drive themselves to the summit of Mt. Washington to view the sunrise from the highest peak in the Northeast. On June 24, the Auto Road will open at 3:30 AM, on July 29 at 4:00 am and at 4:30 AM on August 26, which will allow guests to arrive early enough to watch the sun come up over the Atlantic Ocean. Regular Drive Yourself rates and Vehicle Restrictions apply. The Mt. Washington Auto Road recommends not waiting until the last minute to arrive as you may spend a few additional minutes at the Toll House due to traffic. June 24: 2012 Cranmore Hill Climb, Presented by Delta Dental: The 2012 Cranmore Hill Climb will consist of three 3.87 km laps up and down the mountain for men, two 3.87 km laps for the women and junior men (19 and under) and one 3.8km lap for junior women (19 and under). The course is primarily grass ski slope and double-wide cat track with some small sections of single track. The race is $21 before June 21. Online registration will close on the 21st and there will be $25 race day registration, click here to register online. July 7: Newton's Revenge: Check out this bike race up the Mt Washington Auto Road, known as the Toughest Hillclimb in the World. Road opens to race traffic only at 6:00 am. July 12, 19, 26: Arts Jubilee Outdoor Concerts: Come to Cranmore Mountain and enjoy an outdoor music event every Thursday this summer. Bring friends and family plus your own picnic blanket or lawn chairs. An early concert by area performers is at 6 PM, the featured main performance is at 7:00 PM. The July 12th will feature "Freese Brothers Band: Oldies and Goodies". The July 19th Concert will feature "Entrain: Calypso, Blues, rock, Zydeco and More!". The July 26th concert will feature "James Andrews: Funky Mardi Gras!". Concerts are presented outdoors in nature's beautiful setting with mountain views at the base of the north slope at Cranmore Mountain Resort, North Conway, NH.
