Mt. Washington Valley offers anglers a variety of excellent opportunities for catching brook and rainbow trout, along with small mouth bass, perch, pickerel, salmon and bullheads. Who knows, you might even catch sight of a bald eagle watching attentively from a perch above, or happen upon a beaver or otter while you're fishing. New Hampshire fishing licenses are required for residents age 16 and older and all non-residents who are interested in fishing. They're readily available at many sports, angling and convenience stores in the area. For some of the best fishing holes, those visiting the area might consider some of these.

Swift River - Albany & Conway
With superb waters for fly fishing, but open to all types of angling, the Swift River is well stocked with brook and rainbow trout.

Saco River - Bartlett to Conway
Great for canoeing, the Saco with it’s pools stretches and riffles, is noted for its trout fishing. It’s stocked with brook, brown and rainbow trout. The section 1 1/4 miles above and below the first iron bridge on the River Road in North Conway is set aside for fly fishing only.

Ellis River - Jackson & Glen
Like the Swift River, the Ellis River is stocked with rainbow and brook trout. The water flow is generally good throughout the summer. The area from the Jackson Covered Bridge to the iron bridge in Glen is designated for fly fishing only.

Wildcat Brook - Jackson
This federally-designated Wild and Scenic River (it’s waters create Jackson Falls) has beautiful pools and is well stocked with brook trout.

Falls & Red Eagle Ponds - Albany
Just a short walk from Rocky Gorge picnic area on the Kancamagus Highway, Falls Pond is a natural pond raised by beaver. The 8 acre pond is rich with trout, while nearby Red Eagle Pond offers brown bullhead and chain pickerel, and light non-motorized boat access.

Big & Little Sawyer Ponds
west of Bartlett - For excellent brook trout fishing, hike into these ponds from the Sawyer River Road off Route 302.

Mountain Pond - east of Intervale
From Route 16A in Intervale, follow Town Hall Road to this 124 acre pond in Chatham where you’ll find brook trout. There is access for light non-motorized boats, a 3/10 mile walk in.

Conway Lake - Conway
At over 1200 acres, this is Mt. Washington Valley’s largest lake. It is managed for landlocked salmon, and is noted for smallmouth bass. The salmon fishing can be remarkably good, especially early and late in the season, which runs from April 1 - September 30. Boat access is available from the ramp by the public beach off Mill Street in Center Conway.

Silver Lake - Madison
Lake and rainbow trout are abundant in this nearly 1000 acre cold water lake, as well as smallmouth bass, perch, pickerel and bullheads. Boat access is from the public launch on the south end of the lake. Take Route 41 south from Silver Lake and turn left on East Shore Drive.
