APRIL SHOWERS BRING MAY AND JUNE FLOWER SHOWS, KINDNESS WEEKENDS, ATTRACTIONS OPENING, HILLCLIMBS AND MORE IN MT WASHINGTON VALLEY, NH
North Conway, NH - While snow becomes an almost distant memory and spring time fills the air, Mt Washington Valley, NH readies for the summer season. Look for the region's 11 golf courses and the myriad of attractions and recreation to begin, as school finishes up and summer vacation season begins. Read on for some of the featured events coming up in Mt Washington Valley, New England's kindness capital and vacation playground.
MAY
May 7, 5-7pm: Tribute to 19th Century Mothers Dinner at Remick Country Doctor Museum and Farm
Hats off to a few notable mothers of the 19th century, including New Hampshire's own Sarah Josepha Hale, renowned cookbook author and magazine editor & poet Julia Ward Howe, the first person to propose ‘Mother's Day' as a holiday. The menu will feature some favorite foods from Hale's book that all mothers are sure to enjoy! Cost: $40 per adult. Hearthside Dinners are a gathering of 10-12 adult guests. Staff dressed in period costume, guide guests in the preparation of an authentic 19th century meal. Guests will enjoy cooking and dinning along with historic trivia with culinary prizes, recipe booklets and much more. Call for reservations: 603-323-7591.
May 7: 5th Annual "Honey Do" Auction Presented by the White Mountain Home Builder's Association, Each 'Honey' professional is auctioned off to the highest bidder in need of services. All funds raised benefit Habitat for Humanity. Starts at 5:30pm at Red Jacket Mountain View Resort.
May 7, 14: Free Character Breakfast: Join Believe in Books Literacy Foundation again on Saturdays starting April 16th at 9am for a continental breakfast with one of our storybook characters at the Theater in the Wood! Breakfast is FREE and will include a book swap (bring a gently used book and swap it with another), a small breakfast, the reading of a storybook about that week's character, a visit with the character, and the opportunity to use the trails/storywalks in the 100 Acre Wood for the day. May 8: Mom rides free in Coach on the Conway Scenic RR when accompanied by one or more of her children. Mom rides free in First Class when accompanied by another paying adult on Mother's Day.
May 15-17: Northern New England Home, Flower and Garden Show: More than 62,000 square feet of home and garden displays, six acres of outdoor exhibits and seminars including Meet the Chefs- delicious and dramatic cooking lessons from great chefs, eleven Garden Centers- browse and find all your garden needs, Eco-Friendly-and state of the art product displays and sources for greener living, remodeling- practical, cost efficient ideas in construction, energy-savers- to shrink your carbon footprint and your fuel budget, Words of Wisdon- talk with experts, see the products and gather valuable information. General Admission $9. Children 12 and under free.
May 20: Taste of New Hampshire at Eagle Mountain House: Graze from station to station on samplings from NH's best chefs. Tickets are $30 per person.
May 26: Red Parka Pub Grown Up Prom: Break out the tuxedos and thrift shop gowns for this night of old fashioned fun. Watch the King and Queen of the prom be crowned. $10 per couple to benefit the RPP Scholarship Fund.
May 27-29: Valley Wide Kindness Weekend: Disney has its magic, but over Memorial Day Weekend the Mount Washington Valley will be known as the Kindness Capital of New England! That's great news, because according to The Kindness Center, kindness is the secret to happiness. Over Memorial Day weekend, locals and visitors alike will be soaking up the kindness message as well as bestowing random acts of kindness on our community. The weekend, most of which is free and open to the public, will begin Friday evening with a free keynote lecture at the Theater in the Wood, by author and international speaker Michael J. Chase, founder of The Kindness Center. Saturday morning, everyone is invited to gather in N. Conway Village for a little inspiration and to collect the tools of the kindness trade before fanning out to the community to commit all sorts of kindness on unsuspecting victims. 300 free tickets to the keynote lecture are available at Soy Fire Candles or The Met. May 28: Mt Washington Valley Attractions open for 2011 season: Memorial Day marks the date when all Mt Washington Valley attractions open for the 2011 summer season. Many open for weekends-only through the end of June. Check individual attraction websites for schedules.
JUNE
June 3-4: Scotland in the Valley: Join fellow Scots and Scotties for a celebration of Scottish culture including Whiskey Tasting, dance demonstrations and piping, Amateur Athletics, dancing and Fiddling Competitions, vendors, entertainment all topped off with an evening Cielidh. June 5: Customer Appreciation Day at Mount Washington Auto Road: A special day with special rates to thank guests for 150 great years and to kick off the 150th Anniversary of the Auto Road. Drive Yourself for $5.00 per car, $1.00 per passenger in the car. Vehicle Restrictions apply. Guided Tours $5.00 per person.
June 6-7: 13th Annual Business to Business Expo and MW Valley Golf Tourny: Gather for the largest business expo and networking opportunity in the North Country, all taking place at the Omni Mount Washington Hotel & Golf Course. It starts with a day of workshops, trade show, lectures, winetasting and silent auction celebrating the spirit of enterprise. The Business Expo is followedthe next day by the 10th Annual Mt Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce golf tournament.

June 18-19: Make a monkey out of Dad! Give Dad a day he'll never forget at Monkey Trunks High Ropes and Zipline park. June 22-26: Climb to the Clouds at Mt Washington Auto Road: The famed "Climb to the Clouds" auto race to the summit of Mt. Washington returns in 2011! This legendary hillclimb is the modern version of one of the oldest motorsports events in North America having first been contested in 1904. Multi day event filled with memorabilia, cars racing to the summit, demonstrations, antique autos and more.
