FALL FOLIAGE LODGING IDEAS FROM $30-$70 PER NIGHT

Crawford Notch Campground, Hart's Location, NH: This family owned and operated campground is nestled in the White Mountains of New Hampshire in the scenic Crawford Notch well known for its inspiring views, majestic mountains and unspoiled wilderness. Enjoy the fall foliage in this wooded campground set along the banks of the Saco River. Campsites start at $28 per night for a standard tent site. This rate includes 2 adults and 2 youths (ages 6-15), 1 car, and can accommodate up to 2 small or medium sized tents. Cabins start at $64 per night, for 2 adults and 2 youths. These rates exclude holidays such as Labor Day and Columbus Day. Crawford Notch Campground closes October 18. North Colony Motel & Cottages, Bartlett, NH:  This family oriented motel is located on Rt. 302 in Bartlett, NH just south of Crawford Notch - a recommended scenic drive during fall foliage. Choose from motel rooms with a queen bed, starting at $49 per night midweek (Sun. - Thurs.) or two double beds starting at $59 per night midweek (excluding Fryeburg Fair week Oct. 4-11, 2009). Every room includes air conditioning, a refrigerator, microwave, color TV with cable access, hair dryer, full bath and phone with free local calls.  Don't forget to ask about their great Story Land, Santa's Village, Attitash and additional area attraction packages!

White Trellis Motel, North Conway, NH: Located just north of North Conway Village, this quaint motel is minutes from Story Land and North Conway's shops, cafés and attractions. Each of the 22 rooms offers a private bath, individually controlled heat and air conditioning, extended cable TV and phones with free local calls. Stay at White Trellis Motel midweek in September and October starting at $69 per night (excluding Fryeburg Fair week Oct. 4-11 and Columbus weekend Oct. 10-12, 2009).

Saco River Motor Lodge, Center Conway, NH:  Located on the edge of the Saco River in Center Conway, NH just a few minutes from the border of Maine and North Conway, NH. Choose from the spacious guest rooms with either two full beds or one queen bed starting at $69 midweek (before Fryeburg Fair week Oct. 4-11). FALL FOLIAGE FUN FOR $10 OR LESS
The MAiZE at Sherman Farm, Center Conway, NH: Open September 19 - October 31, 2009, the corn maize at Sherman Farm challenges visitors' wits as they venture through a life sized puzzle. The MAiZe is a unique source of good farmin' fun for adults and children alike for just $8 for adults ages 12 and up and $5 for children ages 5 to 11.  Children under 4 are free. With a new maize design each year, the Moo Express, a mini maze for younger children, corn boxes (like sand boxes but with corn kernels), hayrides, pick your own pumpkins, Al's Animal House with farm animals for petting, corn cannons and concession stands, this is sure to be an affordable fun filled day on the farm.


Fryeburg Fair, Fryeburg, ME & Sandwich Fair, Sandwich, NH:  The Fryeburg Fair, Maine's Blue Ribbon Classic, is celebrating its 159th year of old fashioned country fun.  Held October 4 - October 11, the Fryeburg Fair features eight days of great food, rides, livestock demonstrations and competitions, crafters and displays plus live entertainment and special events.  Admission is $8 per person ($10 on Saturday) and free for kids under 12. Also, senior citizen day is Tuesday, October 6th when 65-and-over are free. The Sandwich Fair is October 10 - 12, with a special preview from 4 to 9 p.m. on October 9 when admission is just $10 for the fair and all the RIDES! General admission is $10, children ages 8 to 12 are $3 and children under 7 are free. This charming fair in Center Sandwich, NH has great competitions each day and a parade Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m.


The Mount Washington Observatory's Weather Discovery Center, North Conway, NH: This hands-on science exploration center is the only museum in the country dedicated entirely to weather. Offering exhibits for children and adults of all ages, visitors can try the air cannon, flow tank and wind room or talk with the observers stationed at the top of Mount Washington through the twice daily live video conference. Admission to the museum is free. The museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and features a great retail shop for really different gifts.


Scenic Walks & Hikes: Mt. Washington Valley is surrounded by picturesque mountains on all sides that come to life in the fall and 660,000 acres of White Mountain National Forest land. What better way to take in the scenery than from the top of a mountain? There are great day hikes for hikers of all experience levels that start right from North Conway. For an easier hike, with a spectacular view, try Black Cap with its trail head right off Hurricane Mountain Road on the North Conway/ Bartlett town line. The view from the top looks West out over the Moat Mountain Range, Cathedral Ledge on down over North Conway Village. Looking for something a little harder? Try hiking Mount Kearsarge. This day hike includes a fire tower at the top which offers a 360 degree view of Mt. Washington Valley and into Maine. The trail head for this hike is also on Hurricane Mountain Road. If a hike sounds like a little too much work on your vacation, try a scenic walk through Whittaker Woods in North Conway, just North of the Village, try a drive to the top of Cathedral Ledge or a short hike up Jockey Cap in Fryeburg, ME for a panorama of the entire Mt Washington Valley aflame in foliage color.  

Let the kids play: Settlers' Green Outlet Village has a great playground in the center of the outlet shopping area, along with free events throughout the year.  Check out Settlers' Green's 13th Annual Fall Festival & Scarecrow Contest on October 3, 2009. This free event, open to the public, runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and includes dozens of handmade, unique scarecrows competing for cash prizes.  Additionally, pumpkin carving, a pie contest, free apple cider, horse-drawn wagon rides, face painting and live entertainment are all offered free to shoppers. Between the festival, the playground and the shops, everyone in the family will be entertained.

Tuckerman Brewing Company's, Brewery Tour, Conway, NH: Tuckerman Brewing Co., named after the legendary Tuckerman Ravine, is a local brew made right here in Mt. Washington Valley, NH. Owners Kirsten and Nik craft their beers using an age old German brewing method called "krausening," which results in a secondary fermentation in the bottle that gives the beer a delicate carbonation and intense flavor. Come visit the brewery on Saturdays at 3 p.m., at their location on Hobbs Street in Conway, and catch their free brewery tour. Voted "2007 Best Brewery Tour" by New Hampshire Magazine, visitors can view the newly renovated brewery and sample some of their hand-crafted beers; a true local favorite!

Stay up to date on all the free events and great offerings for adventure in Mt. Washington Valley with free newspapers. The area's daily paper, The Conway Daily Sun, along with the popular weekly Mountain Ear, both offer a great deal of information on events and news for the region.  Additionally, the Mt.
