MT WASHINGTON VALLEY HOSTS PREMIER CYCLING EVENTSJULY – SEPTEMBER, 2010

Mt Washington Valley has a number of premier cycling events coming up in July, August and September, from Century Rides to the Mount Washington Hillclimb.  No other part of New England hosts such exciting rides, events and hillclimbs.  Whether competing or spectating, the spills, chills and sheer energy of these races and events are worth experiencing.  For many, these are the "bucket list" of rides.  Plan to join us this summer for exciting cycling events.

July 17, 2010 - The Mt. Washington Century Ride

A fundraiser for the Tin Mountain Conservation Center, The Century Ride around the base of Mt. Washington is via the NH Scenic Byway/Presidential Range Tour route that offers spectacular mountain views and tranquil New England pastoral scenery. Abbreviated 40 and 80-mile routes provide wonderful rides for those wanting a little less than a Century. The Century is completely supported with five aid stations along the 100-mile course (three on the 80 mile and two on the 40 mile rides), support vehicles with ham radio operators, two on-duty EMTs, and a bike repair support van. July 31 – August 1 - Kona Bicycles-Fox Shox Mountain Bike Adventure Series, North Conway

The Kona Bicycles MTB Adventure Series is a six-point charity mountain bike ride series that celebrates some of the best riding in New England. For more Info call 800-57-NEMBA.

July 6 - August 24 - Great Glen Trails Summer Mountain Bike Series

This is a weekly mountain bike series from 3:30 - 7:00 pm every Tuesday from July 6 through August 24. Riders compete against the clock in this fun, easy going series. The course takes advantage of Great Glen’s carriage roads and single-track trail system at the base of Mt. Washington. Complete 5 out of 8 weeks to become eligible for the prize lottery. July 10 - Newton’s Revenge at Great Glen Trails

This Hillclimb will be contested on exactly the same course as the historic Mt Washington Auto Road Bicycle Hillclimb – the toughest Hillclimb in the world. This addition is in response to the overwhelming popularity of the MWARBH and this year will benefit the Mt. Washington Observatory and other non-profit organizations. August 1 - Maine Time Trials Series - Fryeburg

The 2010 Maine Time Trial Series consists of 13 races starting with the Seacoast TT in Kennebunkport on May 9 and culminating with the Maine State Championship in Cumberland on September 12. August 8-9 – 15^th Annual 24 Hours of Great Glen

The 24 Hours of Great Glen begins at noon on August 8 and runs until noon on August 9. Competitors race around the clock and may compete solo or in teams of 2, 4 or 5 for a total purse of more than $10,000 in cash and prizes. The goal is to ride as many laps of the 8.25-mile course as possible. Registration closes on Tuesday, August 4 at noon, and spaces are still available. The winner of each of the 24-hour solo categories will pocket $500 this year. For those not ready to tackle the full 24, a 12-hour division will also be offered this year. Designed to introduce more riders to endurance racing, in this division, competitors will race the same exact course and have the same starting time as the 24-hour competitors, but their race ends at midnight. August 14  - The Wildman Biathlon

The Wildman Biathlon is a three-part event for teams and individuals. Now in its 22nd year, the Wildman is New England's toughest single day, multi-sport event, challenging individuals and 2 or 3 person teams who enjoy a variety of terrain and scenery.  The event is a 10K run, 22.3-mile bicycle ride and uphill run for three miles. The race will start at 8:00 am sharp from the Shelburne town garage located on Meadow Road off US Route 2, 3.5 miles west of the ME-NH State line and 5.5 miles east of the Jct. of Rt. 2 and Rt.16 in Gorham. August 14 - 5^th Annual Tour De Lovell

Tour de Lovell is a fundraising event for Lovell Recreation Department and Charlotte Hobbs Memorial Library programs, equipment and facilities.

Cyclists will start from the New Suncook School at 9 am. The 20-mile course

includes a scenic climb with breathtaking views of the White Mountains and long winding hills in the rural forested farmland of North Lovell and finish at New Suncook School. Kid’s 4-Mile Out-and-Back Course: Children will start from New Suncook School approximately 2 minutes after the 20-miler start. They will proceed into Lovell Athletic Fields, do one loop around the fields and return to New Suncook School. FMI call the Lovell Recreation Department at 207-925-1710.

August 21 (weather date August 22) - 38^th Annual Mt. Washington Auto Road   Bicycle Hillclimb - Registration is closed

The "TOUGHEST HILLCLIMB RACE IN THE WORLD!" is a bicycle hillclimb 7.6 miles up the Mt. Washington Auto Road. Come see for yourself why the top racers from around the world and local riders travel to Pinkham Notch, NH to challenge the Mt. Washington Auto Road. September 10 - 12 - Three Notch Century

This event will take cyclists on a scenic and challenging ride through the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Cyclists will ride 100 miles through Franconia Notch, Crawford Notch and up and over the Kancamagus Highway. There are one, two or three day route options. All proceeds benefit Northeast Passage, a program of the University of New Hampshire that provides adaptive sports and recreation opportunities to people with disabilities. September 18 - The Red Parka Pub World Championship Tricycle Grand Prix

Men and women barreling down the racecourse at Black Mountain in Jackson, NH ON TRICYCLES!  It’s zany, its fun, it’s a day of laughs on the mountain for competitors of all ages.  It’s true competition too.   Watch last year’s race here.  FMI visit www.redparkapub.com.
