Skiing Children 5 and under ski free at all Mt. Washington Valley ski areas!
Children and families get the royal treatment at Attitash/Bear Peak with the new Attitash Adventure Center, a 22,000sq. ft. facility that houses the new Learn to Ski, Learn to Ride and all children’s programs. It offers one-stop convenience for families in a state-of-the-art warm and inviting atmosphere.

Black Mountain has been cited by skiing magazines as one of the best family mountains in the Northeast. Offering the Family Passport, two adults and two juniors can ski for under $100. In addition of two more novice trails, and a host of family oriented events, a sunny exposure and good cruising trails, it’s no wonder Black has been cited as one of the best family mountains in New England.

Snowplay is the term Mount Cranmore uses for its family oriented events. From a tubing park offering 6 new lanes of twisting zig zag fun to snowfoxes and ski bikes, to C-more, the mountain’s mascot penguin and ambassador of children’s programs, Mt. Cranmore is dedicated to family fun. Also, the After 2, Tomorrow too! Program allows families to enjoy skiing after 2pm and the entire next day for one low price every day of the season.

The Babes In The Woods and Hobbit Ski School Programs at Bretton Woods Ski Resort, combined with the wide open cruising terrain for family skiing and riding make Bretton Woods Ski Resort one of the top family picks for winter. Add to that, a host of themed packages from the Mount Washington Hotel, located right across the street, and family ski and stay packages take on new meaning.

King Pine Ski Area and Purity Spring Resort offer a wide range of options on a mountain where you don’t have to worry about letting the kids explore on their own. Everything at King Pine is geared toward families, with a skating rink, tubing park and x-country ski trails for those who don’t ski or ride downhill.

At Shawnee Peak you can ski under the lights, well into the night. The perfect activity for kids with endless energy.

Finally, Wildcat Mountain, hosts gorgeous views right into Tuckerman Ravine, and cruising terrain, plus beginner area to rival all others. Wildcat is renowned for it's cruising terrain. For families interested in X-C skiing, try Great Glen Trails or Jackson Ski Touring Foundation and purchase or rent polks-sleds with skis that can be pulled behind Mom or Dad. You'll find ideal terrain for everyone in the family at Bear Notch, Bretton Woods and King Pine x-c centers. And an ideal activity for children and parents together is to take part in an animal tracking or star gazing clinic at the Mt. Washington Valley x-c and snowshoe center.

Off The Slopes

For the non-skiing family, you’ll find a free skating rink right in the center of North Conway, offering a backdrop of the Conway Scenic Railroad Station, and the Moat Mountains beyond. Skating is also available at Mt. Cranmore, King Pine and the new indoor Ham Ice Arena, located in Conway, and on town rinks in Conway, Bartlett and Jackson. Many families choose to visit the winter wonderland of Nestlenook Farm & Resort, located in Jackson, NH with skating on the ponds and sleigh rides where you can stop to feed the reindeer.

For those who prefer horse trails to ski trails, The Stables at The Farm By The River offers winter horseback trail rides. You’ll enjoy guided trail rides through the woods with scenic overlooks of the Mount Washington Valley. If your children are younger, there are pony rides and they also offer sleigh rides for the whole family. You'll also find sleigh rides at Nestlenook Recreation, & Darby Field Inn, and also Chester Eastman Farm.

Mt. Cranmore offers a wonderful indoor Recreation Center offering a climbing wall, a full range of exercise equipment and activities, and games for the children. Likewise, the North Conway Athletic Club has a full range of exercise and racquetball facilities. Both indoor fitness centers have child-care programs too. King Pine offers a wonderful new indoor exercise and swim facility for guests of Purity Spring Resort and on a fee basis to the public.

For those with young train buffs, try the Hartmann Model Railroad and Train Museum, offering both collectors and children alike a world of train-related displays, products and pastimes.
