North Conway, NH - There's plenty of exciting events in Mt Washington Valley to fill the calendar of visitors and residents alike. Take in everything from challenging races up Mt Washington to dances under covered bridges. Best of all, many of these events or free or almost-free. JUNE
June 15 - 19: Mountain Motorcycle Adventure... Rally in the Valley! - The Mount Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce and the MWV HOG Chapter invites "All Motorcyclists" to our Mountain Motorcycle Adventure... Rally in the Valley. Surrounded on all sides by roads meant for motorcycles, the communities served by the chamber offer bikers the ultimate rally experience - complete with small town charm and hospitality. Motorcyclists looking for lakes, mountains, hills, curves, beautiful country roads, guided day trip, great food, live music, fantastic shopping, and so much more will find it all here. June 21: Conway Scenic Railroad Father's Day Special - Dad rides FREE in Coach when accompanied by one or more of his children. Dad rides FREE in First Class when accompanied by another paying adult. June 15 & 18: Motorcycles "Ride to the Sky" at the Mt Washington Auto Road - Monday, June 16 and Thursday, June 19 the Mt. Washington Auto Road will be closed to cars and be open to motorcycles only. Vendors will be set up at the base of the Auto Road and an all day fundraising cookout will benefit charity. Mt. Washington Auto Road guided tours will be operating as normal. June 21: Mt. Washington Alternative Energy Days - Mt. Washington Alternative Energy Days invites those looking to reduce their energy use and carbon footprint to drive up the Auto Road and enjoy the spectacular views. Hybrid vehicles are welcome to drive the Auto Road at a reduced rate. A portion of the proceeds from this day will go to support climate change initiatives. June 26: "April Verch" at the Stone Mountain Arts Center - At age 27, this Canadian Fiddler comes to the Stone Mountain Arts Center with pure energy and bold two-stepping. A fine fiddler, April brings along a great band and aggressive country dancing. Stone Mountain Arts Center is located in Brownfield, Maine. June 27: Environmental Agriculture Field Day at the Remick Museum - The Remick Museum will share the latest in environmental agriculture that they have learned over the past few years. June 27: Covered Bridge Dance in Jackson - Come dance the night away under the stars at the Jackson Covered Bridge and enjoy a good old fashioned block party. June 27: Jimi Hendrix: The Essential Licks with Mike Stockbridge Workshop at North Conway Music Shop - Free workshop features an in-depth analysis of the great Jimi Hendrix's solo and accompaniment styles. Led by Mike Stockbridge, a gifted musician and experienced teacher. Mike will perform, discuss and analyze the techniques of Jimi Hendrix. He'll be concentrating on the licks that made Jimi famous, as well as his accompaniment and general solo style. A packet of info including some transcribed snippets and explanations will be provided free of charge to all participants. Washington Auto Road Bicycle Hillclimb - the toughest hillclimb in the world. This new event is in response to the overwhelming popularity of the MWARTB and will benefit the Mt. July 11- 12: North Conway Library Annual Book & Yard Sale - Inside the cool granite building (air conditioned!), there will be hundreds of books from every category: adult, children, fiction, nonfiction, antiques, rare books, coffee table books, hardcover, paperbacks, and audio books (on CD and cassette). July 13: Encore/Coda Chamber Orchestra at Deertrees Theatre: The professional musicians at Camp Encore/Coda - one of the nation's most outstanding musical camp - are joined by selected students from the Conservatory Program to present a full orchestral program including Haydn's Symphony #101 in D, "The Clock" and Symphony #45 in F# minor, "Farewell" as well as Mendelssohn's Symphony #4, "Italian." This concert is a benefit performance for the Lakes Environmental Association, a non-profit organization that has been protecting the lakes of Western Maine since 1970. Admission: $20. July 16: Rustic Overtones at Cranmore: Formed in the early 90s, Rustic Overtones gained popularity with funky horn-infused jams and a rock solid, rock-ready style. In their years together, the band gained a passionate following with their high energy live set, tirelessly touring college campuses and local clubs up and down the east coast, sometimes playing close to 200 shows a year Opening band Audio Kickstand is a Mount Washington Valley favorite. They cite musical influences including reggae, funk, hip hop, rock, groove, or bluegrass. July 31: "Steep Canyon Rangers" at the Stone Mountain Arts Center - These sharply dressed Rangers hail from North Carolina appearing on stage with suites, ties and suspenders! The Rangers come prepared with a bluegrass repertoire of traditional and original songs, drawing on the sounds of early bluegrass, honky tonk, and blues. August 8: The 148th Birthday of the Mt. Washington Auto Road - Come join in celebrating the 147th birthday of the Mt. Washington Auto Road, the oldest manmade attraction in America. Vintage horse drawn and automotive stages, which have operated for the past 140+ years, will be on display. Don't miss this opportunity to be involved in this part of New Hampshire's history. August 8: The 21st Annual Wildman Biathlon at Wildcat - The Wildman Biathlon is a three-part event for teams and individuals and is New England's toughest single day, multi-sport event, challenging individuals and 2 or 3 person teams who enjoy a variety of terrain and scenery. August 8 & 9: 14th Annual 24 Hours of Great Glen - The cannon will fire to signal the start of the annual mountain bike race held on the trail system at Great Glen Trails at the base of Mount Washington. For 24 hours, riders will take on the race course for this challenging and grueling event. Spectators are encouraged to cheer on the racers and enjoy the festivities under the event tent. August 15: Captain Enoch Remick Open House -The Captain Enoch Remick House, built circa 1808, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and displays Victorian furnishings in a comfortable domestic setting, as the Remick Family may have lived. This was the boyhood home and medical office of Dr. Edwin Crafts Remick. The home also features hand-painted wall murals from the early 19th century, attributed to the work of John Avery. The doors will open from 1:00- 4:00 p.m. for public touring. Cost is $3 per person which also includes a staff-led tour of the farm and admission to the museum. August 15: The 37th Annual Mt. Washington Auto Road Bicycle Hillclimb - People may have seen these bicycle racers on TV challenging mountains in Europe, but they call this event the "Toughest Hillclimb Race in the World", 7.4 miles up the Mt. Washington Auto Road. Come see for yourself why the top racers from around the world and local riders travel to Pinkham Notch to challenge the Mt. Washington Auto Road. August 15 - 16: White Mountain Arts Festival in Jackson - This two-day juried event, sponsored by the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce will be held in the Jackson Park on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Selected artists and craftspeople will be selling their work under a large tent by the pond in Jackson Village. August 23 & 28-30: The 21st Bach Festival at Cranmore Mountain - This year's festival is presented by the White Mountain Musical Arts, a non-profit organization. The Festival Committee has planned concerts with special guest artists in mind, and will be hoping for the opportunity to bring even more interested listeners in touch with the masterful music of Johann Sebastian Bach and fellow Baroque composers. August 29: Fields on the Saco: Take two neighboring New Hampshire and Maine farms and combine them with an award-winning chef and Mt Washington Valley's green team, and what results is a fabulous five course meal and event held in the fields on the Saco River. Mark the calendar for September 6 for the "Fields on the Saco" a very special event honoring the land, family tradition and your discriminating taste. Presented by Maine's Weston's Farm, and New Hampshire's Sherman Farm, along with Executive Chef Bryant Alden of Chef's Market, and the Mt. Washington Valley Preservation Association, on this night alone everything that touches your taste buds during an extraordinary meal will have been raised in the fertile ground of two bordering family farms in Maine and New Hampshire. But there is more than a distinctive meal; in keeping with the Slow Food movement developing in Mt Washington Valley, there will be guided farm tours, farm stores filled with foods, flowers and locally made products, Maine's distinctive Cold River Vodka, a corn maize, local artisan demonstrations, a "Wet Art" sale (wet art refers to artworks created on site), live music and an auction. The event will support Mt Washington Valley's Green Team's efforts to engage Mt Washington Valley residents and businesses in adopting eco-friendly practices to reduce their environmental impact, and the White Mountain Community Health Center's food pantry. Participants will be treated to a five course meal, set on the fields from whence the food came. Each person will be offered a handmade plate made by local potter Becca Van Fleet and locally made napkins, plus other take home gifts. The menu, accompanied by perfectly paired wines and Maine Cold River vodka, will be artfully presented by Chef Bryant Alden and wife Patti, owners of the Chef's Market of North Conway. This chef-team understands the extraordinary advantage that locally grown and carefully handled food can bring to a culinary experience.

Sept 11-13: 33rd World Championships of Mud Football in North Conway - Often called the cleanest sport played in knee deep mud, Mud Bowl splashes off at North Conway's world renowned Hog Coliseum. Now in its 33rd year, the colorful 13-game, double elimination mud football extravaganza includes three days of exciting football action, culminating with the championship Sunday afternoon. The weekend of fun includes a return of the Tournament of Mud Parade on Saturday kicking off at 10:30 a.m., followed by zany halftime events, cheerleader competitions, raffle prizes and much more. Sept 11-13: Carroll County Kennel Club 65th & 66th All-Breed Dog Shows and Obedience Trials- Dogs and their owners will take to Hussey Field in North Conway for what has become one of New England's oldest and most respected dog shows. Besides the competition of breeds, two new events have been added. On Saturday, a Puppy Gala for puppies 6 to 12 months old will offer a special show for the littlest dogs and on Sunday, Rally Obedience offers a fun event for dogs and handlers. September 11: America We Support You Freedom Walk in Jackson - Jackson village, the state representative for the Department of Defense will host a freedom walk to honor all who lost their lives in the terror attacks in New York City. September 12: Dog Daze Express at Conway Scenic Railroad - This is a special day for dogs. Bring your favorite dog, exchange dog stories and take a ride with man's best friend. Reservations can be made by phone or on-line.
