MT WASHINGTON VALLEY CELEBRATES HARVEST TO HOLIDAYS WITH SPECIAL EVENTS AND LODGING PACKAGES

 

It's a special time of year in Mt Washington Valley as the fall foliage colors turns to the harvest glow and then the joy of the holidays.  Mt Washington Valley is alive with special events for each of the upcoming holiday celebrations - Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Look for events for everyone in the whole family in the upcoming months.


OCTOBER


October 17, 18, 24, 25, 30, 31, November 1: The Goullhog Halloween Haunted Chairlift Ride - The tour starts in the Eating House building at the base of Cranmore Mountain and includes a night-time stroll through a haunted walkway to the Quad. After the 7-minute ride to the summit of Cranmore, visitors tour the Ghoullog, where haunted happenings are sure to frighten and surprise the hardiest souls.  October 1-20:  Return of the Pumpkin People - Each year businesses and homeowners throughout Jackson decorate pumpkins and create the unique Pumpkin People tour.   These whimsical creatures can be found throughout the village of Jackson and surrounding areas.  Pick up a tour map and take a self-guided driving tour.  Maps are provided by the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce.  This event is free.  Info:  603-383-9356 or http://www.jacksonnh.com/.

October 1 - Dec 31:  Harvest to Holiday Promotion in Mt. Washington Valley - Join businesses throughout Mt. October 30:  MWVCC Annual Meeting and White Mountain Treasures Celebration- Recipients of the White Mountain Treasures award will be honored at the Mt Washington Valley Annual Meeting and Dinner to be held at the Attitash Grand Summit Hotel and Conference Center on Thursday, October 30, 2009. November 1:  2nd Annual Fur Ball at Grand Summit Resort - The 2008 Fur Ball to benefit the Conway Area Humane Society and Harvest Hills Animal Shelter promises to be a tail wagger once again this year with lots of dancing time to the live music of the award-winning Fryeburg Jazz Ensemble.  To add to the laughs, enjoy the wild antics of Maine comedian Mike Miclon too. November 6 & 7: "The Capitol Steps" at the Stone Mountain Arts Center - The musical cast of this politically satirical group will be back for an election week appearance and have showgoers rolling in the aisles! November 8: Nordic Ski Swap and Sale at JSTF - Kick off the Nordic ski season at the Annual Nordic Ski Swap and Sale from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 pm at Jackson Ski Touring Foundation. November 15: Historic Thanksgiving at the Remick Country Doctor Museum - Where did our modern Thanksgiving traditions come from? Learn about harvest festivals and how the foods of the Thanksgiving feast evolved over the centuries. The event features demonstrations of how an early 19th century meal was prepared, from the farm to the table - including plucking and "dressing" the turkey. Traditional food and drink is prepared on the hearth, using historic recipes with lots of delicious samples to try. Take home a new recipe to include in your own Thanksgiving tradition. Visit a mini exhibit about the history of this important American holiday. November 27: Thanksgiving Feast Buffet and Holiday Concert at the Mount Washington Resort: Create holiday memories and families traditions with a feast fit for man, lady and child.  This Thanksgiving Feast Buffet is what Thanksgiving is all about.  This event is open to guests of the resort and the public too. The Thanksgiving concert will showcase and capture the sound of the Swing North's 19 piece orchestra. November 28:  Preview the newest Warren Miller Film at Bretton Woods- Kick off the 2008/09 ski and snowboard season at Bretton Woods with a screening of Warren Miller's 59th annual feature film, Children of Winter, presented by Jeep. Gingerbread structures will be displayed at each inn.  Vote for your favorite and raise money for community non-profit organizations. December 13: Moonlight Nordic Ski and Snowshoe Tour at the Mount Washington Resort - Snow and a full moon accentuate the breathtaking beauty of Mount Washington Resort's Nordic and snowshoe terrain.  Join our Nordic Center staff on this hour-long excursion along the cross-country moonlit trails of the Resort.  If the views and experience are not hot enough, hot chocolate and a roaring fire will warm you following the adventure.  Reservations are required. Dec 31:  New Year's Festival - The Mt. Washington Valley's New Year's Festival is a spectacular event, full of sights, sounds, pageantry designed to bring people of all ages together to publicly greet the new year. Children and families are the heart of the New Year's Festival which area residents and holiday visitors are invited to attend. The festival encompasses a variety of artistic expressions from outdoor recreational activities to indoor performances including music, comedy, storytelling and an array of art forms presented by local and regional performers. The spirit of the celebration is highlighted in a giant outdoor gathering in the village commons to see a magical Parade of Light, Fireworks, spectacular bonfires and finally, showcasing the lowering of the New Year's Eve Lighted Ball at midnight with a Fireworks Finale, all which help to shape the annual celebration of Mt.
