NORTH CONWAY VILLAGE FESTIVAL CELEBRATES END TO BEAUTIFICATION PROJECT
After more than a year of construction, North Conway Village has a new face lift to welcome visitors to one of the "Greatest Towns in America".
North Conway Village, NH - After months of jack hammering, paving, and parking diversions, North Conway Village is putting the final touches on a fabulous face lift. North Conway Village owners are celebrating with a week-long Village Festival July 3-8, inviting visitors to come view the new planters, lighting, widened sidewalks, visitor parking areas and much more. Even in the midst of the construction, referred to as "the Streetscape Project", Greatest Towns of America guidebook author, David Vokac, could see the Village's potential, not only adding it to his book of the country's best towns, but featuring it exclusively on www.GreatTowns.com . According to Vokac "North Conway is the peerless gateway to New England's biggest mountain playground." Others have referred to North Conway as "the little village that could". Dedicated to its preservation, July 4th will be a time to celebrate with a homespun festival filled with concerts, fireworks, parades and more.
The North Conway Village Festival will kick off on July 3 at 4:00 pm with a Ribbon Cutting and guided Village Walk. Plan to hear the detailed description of all the new changes for North Conway Village, from infrastructure including new water mains, drainage pipes and buried utilities to new paved sidewalks offering easy walking from North Conway's outlets all the way to the village. From new seating and lighting to pavers and parking, North Conway Village offers a wonderfully hospitable setting for visitors and residents alike. Take the walk and learn the details, starting at 4pm on July 3.
Then, July 4th, North Conway will not only celebrate the country' birthday, but also their own independence from construction! Plan to bring the whole family and celebrate with a family fun festival in Schouler Park throughout the day, followed by a free concert and fireworks for all in the park. On both July 5 and July 6, a Juried Artisan Fair will take place from 10am-8pm in the North Conway Community Center. View beautiful hand crafted works by local artists and crafters. This event will be followed by another Concert in the Park from 7-10pm, featuring Entrain and Ben Hammond on July 5. Throughout the week a full line up of entertainment is in store including: Vineyards Entrain, winners of the Boston Music Award for the "BEST LIVE SHOW," with their ability to reliably merge funk, rock, reggae, swamp and world-beat rhythms into a sweaty good time; Wicked Smart Horn Band, with an unlimited mix of rhythm and blues, swing, and rock; The Little Engine That CouldTM, I Think I CanTM Rail Tour at the Conway Scenic Railroad; and sample fare from the Valley Originals Restaurants, a popular array of sporting events, Kid's Korner, Demonstrations and much, much, more! The whole village of North Conway will roll out the red, white and blue carpet to usher in a new era.
A little History
North Conway Village's beautification project, referred to as "The Streetscape Project" took place with close supervision and involvement of the North Conway Village Association and the Mt. Washington Valley Preservation Association. Knowing the roads in North Conway Village were to be reconstructed to provide for new water main pipes as part of Phase 5B of the New Hampshire Department of Transportation by-pass construction project, the Mt. Washington Valley Preservation Association entered into a public private partnership with the Town of Conway and NH DOT to enhance the streetscape of the Village of North Conway. Throughout the project both associations worked together with a mission to preserve the rural character of New Hampshire, known for its villages which have distinct architectural and historical value. With direction from the Mt. Washington Valley Preservation Association, a fundraising drive took place in 2005-2006 to help fund the Streetscape project. With help from a federal grant secured by Senator Judd Gregg along with foundations and businesses throughout Mt. Washington Valley, funding was secured to support the Streetscape project.
The Streetscape Project included:
- Installation of brick sidewalks and granite pavers, resulting in brick sidewalks for easy walking from Artists Falls Road to Pine Street .
- Addition of brick imprinted crosswalks within the North Conway Village district for safety.
- Addition of period historical lighting on side streets, including Pine St, Depot St, Grove St, Seavey St., Kearsarge St and Mechanic St. where poles previously existed.
- Addition of brick sidewalks on Kearsarge Street.
- Creation of a sidewalk on Pine Street from Route 16 to corner. Addition of freestanding historical poles and lights on Pine Street where no poles existed.
- Replacement of all trash receptacles and recycling containers with upgraded attractive containers.
- Installation of aesthetic improvements such as upgraded benches.
- Electrical systems upgrades in Schouler Park to fit the needs and safety of the public and addition of irrigation to Schouler Park.
- Landscape improvements upon completion of sidewalk construction.
