World Mud Bowl Championships Sept. 7- 9, 2007 Mud Bowl celebrates "Pirates of the Mudribbean", Yo Yo Yo it's a muddy life for me"
NORTH CONWAY, Mud Capital, USA - Mud Bowl 2007 will celebrate a theme of "Pirates of the Mudribbean", Yo Yo Yo it's a muddy life for me" when the World Championships of Mud Football splash off in North Conway, NH's Hog Coliseum Friday through Sunday, Sept. 7-9. It's good clean football fun, played in knee deep mud. And while whimsical in theme, the competition is genuine with a world championship title at stake. And new this year, former New England Patriot football players will go head-to-head in an All-Star basketball game to kick off the Mud Bowl festivities. From J
ack Mud-Sparrow to the Brown Pearl, spectators will enjoy plenty of yuks in the muck when they come to the games, which will feature pep rallies, the 25th annual Tournament of Mud Parade Sept. 8, cheerleader competitions, Imari and the Sahara Desert Belly Dancers of Bridgton, Maine; the world's best synchronized mud swimming, and more mud mania. In an election year, where plenty of mud slinging is already taking place in New Hampshire, the Tournament of Mud parade may even feature a Presidential candidate, along with plenty of zany floats, bands and dirty fun.
For the first time ever, five former New England Patriots players will team up to play against a team of World Mud Bowl All-Stars in a basketball game at the new Kennett High gym in Redstone on Friday night of Mud Bowl Weekend. Led by Kennett High Football Coach Drew Inzer, who is a former New England Patriot, the game is slated for 7 p.m. at the new Kennett High School, with proceeds to benefit the Gary Millen Foundation, the non-profit organization which hopes to build a new multi-sport stadium at the new school. The line-up former New England Patriot players includes Inzer, who was a Patriots practice squad player, and Ronnie Lippett, Roland James, Max Lane, and Stephen Starring. The Mud Bowl All-Star Team will consist of two players from each of the eight World Mud Bowl teams. The players will be happy to sign autographs, and a raffle will be held, featuring jerseys autographed by the players. Tickets will be $5 for adults and $2 for students and will be sold at the door.
Now in its 32nd year in North Conway, the colorful 13-game, double elimination mud football extravaganza includes three days of exciting football action, culminating with the championship Sunday afternoon, Sept. 9. Eight teams from throughout New England will participate, including the 1999 and 2006 defending champion Nashua Mud Gumbys of Nashua, N.H., 2005 champion North Shore Mudsharks of Beverly, Mass.; the 16-time champion Muddas Football Club of Amherst, N.H., the hometown 11-time champion Mt. Washington Valley Hogs; the 2001 champion Merrimack Mudcats of Franklin, N.H., the Peabody Predators of Peabody, Mass.; the Carrabassett Valley Rats of Kingfield, Maine; and the Cumberland Muckaneers of Rhode Island.
The family-oriented event benefits local charities, with more than $435,000 having been raised over the years. Patrons may use their admission ticket as their entry in raffle drawings that will be held throughout the weekend. Three-day tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the gate. Daily tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children under 12. A $15 family pass for two adults and two children is available as well.
