Welcome to Gorham & Shelburne Villages

Gorham was incorporated in 1836 and has maintained its historic, small-town atmosphere. Nestled in the Androscoggin Valley adjacent to the picturesque Presidential Mountain Range, the Village has many appealing shops, excellent accommodations and dining for everyone, from casual to gourmet.

There are a variety of recreational opportunities, but if you enjoy the outdoors, you've come to the right place. Here you can hike, rock climb, mountain bike, ride your ATV, kayak, canoe, camp, fish, play tennis, and golf in the summer and cross country ski, downhill ski, snowmobile, snow shoe, and hunt in the winter and fall. There are six major ski areas within a 40-mile radius of Gorham. There are two state parks nestled in the woods in Gorham for family camping.

Gorham is your "Base Camp for Grand Adventure" as it is centrally located and the perfect place to stay to take all of the area's attractions in. In addition, there are numerous outfitters who can provide you with all of the gear you need for whatever activity you wish to do. Gorham is surrounded by the White Mountain National Forest and the spectacular Mt. Washington and Great Glen Outdoor Center are only eight miles away. You can get to the summit of Mt. Washington either by hiking up, taking a guided tour by stage, or by driving your own vehicle in summer or by riding a snowcoach partway up the Auto Road in winter. Don't forget to stop at Glen Ellis Falls and Wildcat Mountain for a Zip-Line Ride on your way there. The Great Glen Outdoor Center offers trails for running or biking, kayaking trips and a climbing wall. The Appalachian National Scenic Trail is also nearby. Androscoggin Valley Country Club, Six Gun City, Santa's Village, and Story Land are all nearby attractions.

Don't miss the unique opportunity to take a Gorham Moose Tour in search of the giant of the North Country (94% successful sighting rate) and other area wildlife, including deer, osprey, eagles and more. Tickets are available at the Gorham Information Booth and reservations are recommended. Call 466-3103 or toll free 877-986-6673 for a reservation.

With its location halfway between Montreal and the Atlantic Ocean, Gorham was a railroad hub and its historical society, located in the 1907 depot off the Town Common, pays tribute to that part of its heritage with a museum, unique model railroad and railroad equipment on display.

After a full day of activities, you can enjoy a delicious meal at one of our restaurants, cafés or pubs and then spend the evening at an inn, bed & breakfast, motel, resort or campground, whatever suits your needs. If you're looking for a terrific family vacation destination, Gorham is your base camp for grand adventure!

Boston Magazine named Gorham the "Best Sporty Town" in New Hampshire and Gorham was awarded with "Best of New England 2006 Destinations".
